Perhaps my favorite cemetery to have ever visited. As a dedicated taphophile I visit cemeteries all over the country and abroad. Holy, an historically paupers field, is one of the most unique I’ve ever seen. No traditional burial plots, all handmade markers. True creativity in memorial of love on display. It can be a bit dangerous as far as footing goes as it is not maintained at all, but worth the risk of a twisted ankle to see such brilliance and unique monuments. You will see things at Holt Cemetery that you will see nowhere else in the United States. It's the most active cemetery in New Orleans with old gaves being dug up for the recently departed. The Cemetery is also the resting place in an unmarked grave of the founder of jazz, Charles Joseph "Buddy" Bolden.
