The Ruby Slipper Cafe was a great dining experience for the family. From being seated outside as an option (not because we had to like at Nice Guys without notice about a $25 credit card hold), to them having things for kids to play with as they wait for their food, I thought it was unique.
The options for the breakfast drinks were amazing and paired well with the food, though you can't feel them as much (so the bar tender was more on the lighthanded side of fixing drinks).
The pancakes were GREAT! The southern hashbrowns/potatoes were GREAT! I'm not sure about the Omelets because I don't like eggs like that, but I will take my family's word for it because they ordered omelets and liked them as well!
My only issue with the food, because I know you are wondering why the 3, is because my daughter asked for fried catfish strips with her food and I wish we would have taken the picture so you could see what 3 thin pieces of MEAT, not fish (cause it was not catfish at all, catfish doesn't even look like that fried), they placed on her plate, for us to have to order her a burger. I also wish I would have said something to the waiter in restrospect about paying for something so unattractive and tasteless, they really put no effort into it.
So although, the rest of the food was pretty awesome, the fish was unappealing and how they tried to present it as a meal to a 14 year old which looked like 1 piece of 1/3rd of a chicken tender from Canes served on a small round plate, I am just flabbergasted at who in the kitchen thought that was cool, especially in the South, for people from the South and for a New Orlean's portion.
Needless to say I won't be visiting Ruby Slipper again and prefer Cracker Barrel if I'll get pancakes, cause at least I know we will receive the REAL MEAT we asked for and not that processed fried nastiness.
Our server had great energy and was helpful except for taking off that nasty fish order, and the atmosphere was 4-star outside, we...
Read moreGreat food, great service! Came highly recommended and they weren't wrong! We came here on our last day in the city. Immediately, the outer appearance of the Broad St. location was odd... it looks like a government office building from that side... but that's the way our directions gave us. If you come in from the other side of the corner, that's the way in. Cute little cafe with bright colors and chalk-written signs with fun sayings about food, drinks, and brunch. A hipster's dream, but we found out they have the goods to back it up. We ordered 2 bloody mary's and an Irish coffee... my Irish coffee was good, but the 2 bloody mary's looked totally different- one was very strong and almost clear, while the second was much thicker and darker with much more mix. Wish I took a side-by-side photo because it was so obviously inconsistent to serve to the same table at the same time. That being said, this was the one and only mishap of the entire meal.
We ordered the special crawfish benedict and the Eggs Cochon benedict. Both were amazing! The crawfish version was served on a grits cake and the cochon was piled high on a buttermilk biscuit. They could've used HALF the pork on the cochon- at the end, I had enough meat on my plate still to make an entire second order and I had eaten A LOT of pork already. The biscuit was buttery and the sauce was delicious and tangy. My friends raved about the Crawfish Benedict being the best thing they ate the entire trip... and we tried many different places over the week!
They also have a bunch of really cute logo swag, all made with quality fabric that makes you want to wear it. We bought a couple of shirts to commemorate our awesome meal, even though they were kinda pricey ($26 for a t-shirt and $40 for a long sleeve with a hood).
Overall, this is a DON'T MISS when you're visiting NOLA and we will definitely be going back next time...
Read moreWhat a turnaround! I decided to give Ruby Slipper Mid-City another shot, and I'm so glad I did. I returned 7 days after a less-than-great experience, and the hostess not only recognized me but also made sure I was seated right away in a section with an incredibly attentive server. They completely redeemed themselves today, and I'm happy to say I kept my promise of giving them another chance, especially since I used to be a regular customer. Kudos to that amazing team for turning things around!
I want to be upfront about my experience, but I also want to acknowledge the efforts made by the manager, Charles, to address the issue promptly. My visit to the restaurant this morning started off with a delay in service, which was a bit frustrating. However, I appreciate that the hostess noticed, and Charles, being the polite and attentive manager he is, came out to speak with me.
During our conversation, Charles kindly offered to buy my breakfast to make up for the inconvenience. Although I couldn't accept his offer at that moment due to personal reasons, I'm grateful for his gesture and understanding. It's important to me to maintain a sense of fairness, and I had every intention of paying for my meal from the start, I could not accept a free meal, because of lackluster service.
I've been a regular patron of this restaurant and have even brought my team for sessions in the past. I believe that constructive feedback like mine can lead to positive changes and improvements in service. While my experience today wasn't perfect, I'm hopeful that in the future, I'll be able to return and enjoy a smoother visit. Today may not have been the best day, but it's an opportunity for growth and improvement for...
