I had a very disappointing experience here the other day. My husband and I arrived at 2:10 pm on a Thursday afternoon for lunch. Upon arrival, one of the employees was putting up all the tables and chairs for outdoor seating. We asked if we could sit outside and she told us no because she was putting the tables and chairs away, but meanwhile there was another customer still sitting at a table outside. So we walked inside, and as I was about to sit down at a table indoors, the same employee comes up to the table next to mine and starts flipping the chairs up on that table, which definitely gave me the impression that she was ready to put away this seating area, too. So I relocated to a different table in the center of the cafe. The employee then came over to my new seat and told me “if you can put your order in the kitchen closes by 2:40”. At this time it was only 2:15. I had been at this cafe for all of 5 minutes and it does not close until 3 pm. Ma’am, it will not take me 30 minutes to place my order. In the 5 minutes I had been there, her behavior had made it very obvious with putting things away, mopping the floors, and making a point to tell me to essentially hurry up and order my sandwich and salad, that she was ready to go home. It was totally off-putting, unwelcoming, and maybe the least friendly small business experience I’ve had since living in NOLA. The food was great. Just know you’re apparently not welcome past 2 pm even though they are open until 3 pm. After ordering at 2:18 pm my husband and I took our food and sat on the bench outside because I didn’t want to eat a meal feeling like an annoyance even though I was a paying customer just hoping to enjoy...
Read moreEh. I’m sure if I lived in one of the nice houses nearby I would appreciate the convenience of this place better. But not worth the 30 minute drive I took to get here.
Service was good, run of the mill order at the counter and take a number. I had the basic breakfast and added a pancake and a side of potatoes. My companion had the pork poblano hash.
Potatoes were basically new potatoes with maybe a little salt? They tasted dry and reheated, but I could be wrong. No flavor profile here besides potato. My bacon was black, super over done. I do like crispy bacon so I didn’t mind too much but literally there was a moment when I was just chompin’ on char and some of it was getting stuck in my throat. 🙃 The pancake I will say was delicious! Thin and crispy on the edges and light and super packed with flavor.
The pork hash tasted like some dehydrated or shredded pork jerky. It was extremely dry…it definitely did not taste fresh or anything but maybe it was the intended flavor? Idk.
I will say this place was overall super clean so one star for clean one star for pancake. But I don’t think I’ll come back just because I live far away and there are more flavorful places in the city. Wouldn’t recommend to locals or tourists. But if you’re on a rush to work or in the neighborhood and...
Read moreI’ve been going to Satsuma Maple for 10+ years. Anytime out-of-state family visits, it’s one of our first spots to hit with them! We know the menu inside and out and to this day, dream of yalls beet lemonade. We even went to Satsumas Magazine, yalls second location (around 2020) twice. We went earlier this week and had a horrible experience. I’m so disappointed because we really love(d?) this place and would like to continue to have this place as an option. We ordered and the cashier was rude once we said we’d like it to go- he came off almost surprised, though as a cashier- it is his job to clarify that ahead of time. No biggie, we let him know. Very quickly after ordering, a staff member spoke to us like we were toddlers, ushering and rushing us to sit down..I was so taken aback I was speechless. I had just spent 30+ dollars, lol. We sat and waited and our food came out, on a plate- not to go..No biggie, they practically threw a box at us! We boxed it up and happily left! Just very odd interactions..Far from welcoming, once you order you become a burden- in a place meant to offer..food? Upsetting because one of my favorite places is no...
