Honest Review of Soul Seafood – Extremely Disappointed I decided to give Soul Seafood a second try, hoping for a better experience — but what I received was not just disappointing, it was unacceptable. I paid $30 for a plate that included two crabs and four potatoes. For that price, I expected decent quality. Instead, the crabs were covered in black spots that looked like mold. I’ve eaten seafood all my life, and I’ve never seen anything like that. It was disgusting — and clearly not safe to eat. When I brought it to the cashier’s attention, I was told “we just boiled those.” There is no way freshly boiled crabs come out looking like that. Either someone isn’t checking the food before it goes out, or there’s no concern for the customer’s health and safety. This isn’t just about poor service — it’s about basic food quality and respect for the people you’re serving. Whether it’s kids, seniors, or anyone else, no one should be given food in that condition. To make matters worse, this is happening in communities that deserve better. If you’re going to charge premium prices, then the food and service should reflect that. There’s no excuse for sending out spoiled or questionable seafood, especially without even an apology or effort to make things right. I really wanted this place to be better, but this experience left a bad taste — literally and figuratively. Until there are serious changes in how Soul Seafood prepares and serves its food, I can’t recommend it to anyone.

Its not the same people that use to have the best Crawfish in New Orleans. They're not the best any more but the food is still good and based on the name alone and the many years they had the title, I had to give them 4 stars. Four years ago it would have been 5 stars but the spices in the crawfish don't hit the same as four years ago.

Disappointed and Deeply Concerned About Customer Safety

I brought some out-of-town guests to Soul Seafood Uptown during French Quarter Fest because, as a native New Orleanian, I know where to find good soul food. While I personally don’t eat here often, I wanted my guests to enjoy the classic local experience—crawfish, shrimp, potatoes, corn, smoked sausage, and turkey neck. Unfortunately, our experience was overshadowed by a serious issue that should not be ignored.

As we approached the entrance, there was a man standing directly in front of the door aggressively asking for money. It made not only my guests but myself feel extremely unsafe. As business owners, we understand we can’t control everything happening outside, but we absolutely can and should control what goes on at the front door where customers are entering.

I went inside and respectfully alerted the owner to the situation. To my disappointment, he looked at me like I was the problem for bringing it up. There was no urgency, no concern, and certainly no action taken to address the safety of the people coming into the restaurant. That level of disregard is unacceptable, especially in a community like ours that has worked hard to maintain a welcoming and safe environment.

It’s incredibly disheartening to see an establishment benefit from our culture and community while showing so little respect for the people in it. Safety should never be an afterthought.

Until Soul’s Seafood Uptown takes proper steps to ensure that their customers can enter without feeling threatened or unsafe, I do not recommend this place—especially for tourists or families. There are too many other great, respectful local spots that serve excellent food and treat guests with the care and safety they deserve.

Do better. - the owner didn’t even apologize about the situation and literally just...

This is me and my fiancĂŠe first time in New Orleans and we wanted to get the down home New Orleans embeaounce while visiting. Fire Food and Spirits definitely fulfilled our cravings for great authentic food and company. The music selection is great and the staff was wonderful and informative as well. We made an impromptu trip to NO just to satisfy our travel bug. I recommend this to anyone looking for local or as travel bloggers describe as being an off beat path. We were lucky to have a (unfortunately I forgot her name) waitress make us her specialty drink The Hennessy Margarita! Listen I'm always down for Hennessy no matter the situation or occasion. These margaritas were nothing but alcohol and great spirits! I highly recommend that and the house special "The Michelle Obama"! The crawfish egg rolls OMG! The creamy cheese sauce and crawfish were seasoned perfectly, the egg roll was buttery, crispy yet flaky, well entact with each bite and the dipping sauce was sweet and spicy. Perfect for an appetizer although four pieces just wasn't enough! The environment was very low key during the day not jammed pack considering we came after lunch time hours. Prices are responsible as well and portions can be shared depending on the dish. The servings I saw other guest order were large so I recommend to share as well especially if you're on a budget. Thanks to Instagram we found a local...
