On a relaxing afternoon and beautiful day nothing is better than going out for a bite to eat . Well we decided to try Sun Chong we made a reservation for 4:30 we were on time and seating was a breeze we got sat right next to a window I usually don’t like window views that lead to watching people go by but it was ok , As we were looking at the menus and talking I noticed time was going by and no one acknowledged us I saw server talking and laughing with each other but not doing things with the guess so it wasn’t busy , I also noticed a photographer taking pictures of drinks with a young lady who was dress as Mr. Monopoly didn’t understand why they choose to do Advertising pictures in the restaurant while people were in there but anyway after 15 mins of waiting we decided to stop a server and ask could she get us our server the young lady took the initiative to ask us if we wanted water or something to drink and she would find our server . I can’t remember the young ladies name but she was helpful she took our drink and appetizer order. 10 mins later after this our server came over and asked about our drink and appetizer order and we replied another young lady helped us already , so she left to get the strawberry Soju bottle said she would be right back to take our order the server took our finally and went to the next table . 20 mins later we received our order of Sun Chong wings the appetizer wings were hard and dry to the bone the sauce was Mediocre and a taste was bland. The server didn’t deliver the wings it was a guy with a lot of Tattoos I don’t know his job description but he brought them to the table 10 mins later the server came to see if they were ok I replied I guess it’s because I had one and I was done my son ate them . The sever later brought out the entrees I had the seafood Ramen and he had the Yum yum fried ribs , My son kept his Ribs even though much like the chicken they were dried out and sauce added to them the food was Atrocious. I took one bite of the Ramen and I couldn’t it had spice but no flavor I mentioned it to the server and she asked it I wanted something else I replied let me see the menu and I opted on having nothing .This is a Restaurant that I will never visit again. The service was terrible as well as the food . The tip is included and that’s really not good especially if you’re not making sure the servers are working for them Tips = (To insure prompt service ) I’m definitely disappointed in this...

Visited: October 30, 2025 – Lunch Location: New Orleans, French Quarter
My wife, daughter, and I were in New Orleans for a quick trip and decided to grab a late lunch around 2 PM at Sun Choung, a spot with solid Google reviews and an Asian Fusion menu that caught our eye.
When we arrived, the restaurant was packed — always a good sign! Unfortunately, there were no tables available. The host asked if we’d like to sit at the bar. Now, not knowing Louisiana law and being responsible parents, we mentioned that our daughter is 15 and asked if that was okay. “Sure!” they said. Hungry and optimistic, we took our seats, with her safely sandwiched between mom and dad.
About 15 minutes later, after ordering (and my wife ordering a cocktail charmingly named “I Love You” — which, to its credit, was pretty good), the bartender suddenly asked if our daughter was 21. Uh… no. And neither was she when you seated us here! We were then told we’d have to move once a table opened up. Spoiler: no table ever opened up.
Our “quick lunch before a flight” turned into a waiting game that clocked in around 45 minutes to an hour before the food appeared. When it did, the experience was mixed but mostly decent:
Tempura Shrimp: Clearly pre-made and underwhelming.
Chicken Wings: Fresh, crisp, sticky and actually quite good — though the gochujang sauce leaned more sweet than savory and could use some acid in our opinion.
Kimchi Dumplings: Solid backup option after learning the vegetable version was 86’d. My daughter is a dumpling lover.
Chicken Lettuce Wraps: Just the basics — no carrots, cucumbers, cilantro, or bean sprouts — basically lettuce cups and chicken, which felt a little too minimalist for the price, but tasted good for what it was.
Here’s the kicker: knowing the bar seating situation was their error, our bartender graciously decided to… to tack on an 18% gratuity. Interestingly, she didn’t do that for the folks seated on either side of us. Moreover, coming from the service industry would have handled it a lot different.........
So, if you enjoy solid pricey food, the thrill of potentially breaking French Quarter liquor laws, and the suspense of whether you’ll eat and make your flight, then Sun Choung might be your kind of adventure. Next time we are in town, will...
Read moreWe came here because we saw the Crab Rangoon dip online and wanted to try it. It was $21 even though the website states it is $18. After ordering it took about 30 minutes before we got it. We started to think the server had forgotten to ring it in and were planning on reminding her but we did not see her in that entire wait until right before it came out and she told us they burnt it and were making a new one. The dip was really good once we finally got it but wasn’t very warm.
For entrees we ordered the Baco with a side of fried rice. The server asked if we wanted chicken, veggie, or crawfish fried rice and we got chicken. When I ordered the Grilled Salmon the server asked “do you want veggie, crawfish, or chicken” so we got crawfish. She did not say that this was going to be a substitution and up charge and she definitely did not say the crawfish was an upcharge of $12. I would not have ordered the crawfish if I knew it was that steep of an upcharge just for a few pieces of crawfish in the rice.
The entrees also took a while to come out and when they did, we did not get the chicken fried rice. The server set down the food and immediately walked away before we could ask about it. She then came back to say they were making more and it would be a little bit but they’ll give us a larger portion. The salmon was really good but the Baco was dry and the buns were hard. The fried rice came well after we were already done eating and it had an odd taste to it so we didn’t even eat it, they luckily took it off the bill.
Once we got the bill is when we found out about the $12 rice upcharge. When asking about it the server said “the salmon comes with white rice so it was an upgrade” but that was not at all how she worded it when taking our order. There was a 20% tip already included so the bill was over $100 for two people and we left really frustrated with our quality of food and the service.
We had amazing food every meal throughout our trip to NOLA and this was a very disappointing last meal in the city. I feel like we could’ve gone literally anywhere else and gotten a better meal and...
