Pros: The 35th-floor Lakeview room offers a stunning view of the Mississippi River. Donesha and Kesh at the Greatroom restaurant & Bar provided exceptional service and deserve recognition. Ronel at the front desk was hospitable and engaging. Onsite amenities such as multiple dining options, a bar, a FedEx office center, concierge service, and bellhop assistance. Convenient location in the French Quarter, close to attractions, Bourbon Street, and dining options.
Greatroom food is decent and good portions for the price (8/10)
Cons: Long check-in lines and a chaotic atmosphere, making the experience stressful. Numerous additional fees, including tourism fees, parking taxes, and parking fees. Valet parking is the only option, costing guests $50+ per day, and requiring waiting times every time you want to leave, with a seemingly expected tip each time. Additionally, upon returning to my vehicle, I found both the passenger and driver side seats leaned all the way back, without any explanation or reason provided. The area surrounding the hotel is unsafe, with recent incidents of violence and a prevalence of intoxicated, mentally unstable, and homeless individuals laying on sidewalks and roaming the streets all day amd night. Unsanitary environment outside the hotel, with streets littered with urine, feces, and trash, creating an unpleasant odor. Management and customer service were not accommodating, with unclear policies on the $20 per day food and beverage credit and no flexibility with early check-in or late check-out requests. Billing statements were difficult to understand, with additional fees and taxes added without notice. Staff appeared irritated when having to explain charges, and room service charges were lumped together on the bill rather than clearly itemized. For example, room service doesn't show specifically what was ordered leaving room for overcharging. Service in the Greatroom restaurant was lacking on Saturday night, with long wait times for simple refills when it wasn't that busy. The only thing that redeemed this experience was Donesha's impeccable service. Not pet-friendly as there's no pet area. The hotel has no grass. Must walk 4-5 streets down to the Riverfront park which isn't safe for late night/ early morning walks due to homeless.
Overall, I will not stay here again and cannot recommend it unless you are willing to tolerate chaos and filth. Staff are ok but used to more friendly people at Marriot. This location is not the usual Marriot standard, maybe because it New Orleans. It's too expensive to be so unaccomdating! ...
Read moreOverall our stay at this hotel was a terrible waste! We booked a room for a business conference. The booking was made through my company, so right off the back I had issues because they needed the physical card I booked with. Because of how expensive the hotel is, I didn't have another card I could give them. Fortunately, I managed to work out a temporary solution with the manager, but that still resulted in an unpleasant charge on my card which I am currently waiting to get reimbursed by the hotel. I managed to get a hold of my boss later and it was all sorted. But after a long day of traveling it made for a very unpleasant first hour. In addition, parking costs $50 PER DAY. You would think for all this money it's at least a really nice hotel right? Wrong! We found multiple stains on our bed clothes throughout the week, outlets in the room did not work, the pool is full of bugs and debris, there is barely any water pressure in the shower, and basically all the special amenities they advertise are hidden under layers of fine print and extra fees. You have to pay for breakfast (something you get for free at lesser hotels) The rooms don't even have a microwave, you have to go down to the lobby! The elevator system is also ridiculous. The computer system for the elevators is good idea in theory, but not in practice. The number of times I spent 20+ minutes packed in the elevator with a ton of people, and still had to stop at a dozen floors was ridiculous! As if that wasn't enough, on our second day, the cleaning people had a record that we were supposed to check out (we still had two more days on our booking). Fortunately, my husband arrived in time to stop them from removing our stuff. He had to talk to the front desk, they confirmed our stay was correct so everything turned out ok. But there is clearly a disconnect between the cleaning crew and front desk that could have caused a lot of issues for the guests. Overall, I'd rate cleanliness a 2 out of 5, service a 3 out of 5 As a comparison, we extended our stay in the city, but went to stay at a cheaper hotel. The super 8 we went to was a WAY better experience. The place just tries to skate by on how nice it looks and that it's in the middle of the city. If we were paying for this hotel instead of my company, we would be demanding some sort of compensation. The experience to stay at this hotel is not...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of staying at the New Orleans Marriott on Canal Street, and I can confidently say it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. We checked in on May 3 and checked out on May 6, and every moment of our stay was marked by outstanding service and top-tier amenities.
From the moment we arrived, Sudip at registration set the tone for an amazing stay. His kindness and professionalism truly stood out—he went above and beyond to ensure we had the best experience possible. As a Platinum Marriott member, I was thrilled when he upgraded us to a corner river-view room on the 34th floor, making our stay even more special. What impressed me even more was his dedication to finding us the perfect accommodations—he encouraged me to check back the next day, and sure enough, he secured an upgrade to a premium river-view two-room suite with a wet bar. The suite was absolutely stunning, offering both luxury and comfort.
Beyond the accommodations, the hotel itself was remarkable. The lobby was beautifully designed, creating an inviting and upscale atmosphere. The pool area was lively and energetic, featuring a DJ spinning great tunes, adding to the vibrant ambiance.
One of the standout aspects of the stay was the M Club lounge—an incredible space offering top-notch amenities. The chef preparing omelets each morning was outstanding, crafting made-to-order breakfasts that were delicious and satisfying. The lounge also hosted an evening reception that felt more like a full dinner, offering a variety of high-quality dishes. Throughout the day, snacks, beverages, and treats were readily available, making it an excellent spot to relax and unwind.
While the hotel staff exceeded expectations, the valet service was just okay—not quite on the same level as the excellence shown by the Marriott team.
As our stay came to an end, Sudip once again delivered exceptional service during checkout, warmly thanking us for our business and ensuring our departure was just as seamless as our arrival.
