Warning! Do not pop a bite-size beignet into your mouth. Belatedly realizing that they are made at the time of ordering leads to coughing out confectioners sugar. Woe to you if you're wearing dark clothes...and are in a clean car.
Uptown Coffee is a great little shop located behind what looks to be a house. Free parking in the back. Quaint but clean outdoor area. Clean on the insides and not crowded by too much furniture, which often is the case with small shops. This shop wants people and customers to do the crowding.
Service was covered by one person, I forgot to get her name, but my receipt reads "Max C." She completed the work of three people: cashier, pastry chef (if that is what they call beignet cookers), and wait staff.
The beignets have that just right bite. They were not an empty shell like an hollow Easter bunny 🐇 making your mouth miss texture and causing you to eat more. Nor were they filled like a hush puppy that leaves a weighted feel in your belly. The beignets are a perfect breakfast or treat without feeling guilty of breaking any reasonable healthy diet because you can easily stop eating them. And come back to them again because they are lovely to eat but not in a craving "must have" like with Krispy Kreme or McDonald's.
Rather you will come back to Uptown Coffee's beignets like they are the perfectly made Krispy Kreme donut or the perfectly made fresh McDonald's fries. Uptown Coffee's taste and feel is an "I want a perfectly textured, perfectly...
Read moreCame in for coffee and beignets, and the service and coffee were not the best quality. I was given very awkward vibes and treated like an inconvenience, then given lukewarm and old coffee. It wasn't hot, and my immediate thought was wishing for a microwave. My café au lait tasted watered down as well - maybe she ran out of old coffee and added water to it while I was in the bathroom? Sad because the beignets reminded me of my dad's and I enjoyed those.
Upon arrival, she was cleaning a mat with soapy hands, just stood stationary at her tasks without a word, and stared at me like I was an alien. It was so awkward that I asked if she was still serving coffee. Upon receiving a yes, I said I was ready, then and ONLY then did she move and just wiped the soap off her hands (gross). Both toilets were also clogged with a bunch of...
Read moreI would have rated this place a 5 but this one particular cashier had a nasty attitude. They had a shortage on beignets due to a high customer volume and posted a sign nonetheless. While we were there we saw them handing an order of the bite size out to a customer and by this being our first time there and also visiting from out of town we inquired lf they had enough dough for an order of the bite size ones to another lady who came from the back and the young lady had the audacity to reach around her and tap on the sign as if we were illiterate or had no understanding. Luckily I felt it wasnt worth the energy unlike my fiance..Nonetheless another employee saved the day and soothed things over and invited us to come back later that evening when she thought that the dough...
