Blue Velvet Studio NOLA — Local services in New Orleans

This may be the BEST studio in New Orleans for various reasons. Not because it has the best room, or the best gear (though it has a really great live room and some great gear), it's the engineer/owner.

Tom Stern is not only a talented and capable engineer, but as a musician has a great ear, and terrific feel for various genres from rock, blues, jazz and more.

He works quickly, efficiently and professionally and is laid back and low-stress taking the time to get the best performances and takes from musicians, bands and vocalists. As far as I know, he's worked with some of New Orleans' TOP artists.

The studio offers a great live room, some really nice mics, and a great location with good food and bars nearby.

They have some great gear, and can work virtually quite smoothly as well -- I've done some great NYC/NOLA sessions with him.

I cannot recommend this room/engineer/producer...

Comfortable and well-equipped recording space; Tom Stern created a relaxed, collaborative environment and brought in the right studio musicians to create the vision I had for my project. Tom has a good ear and a creative mind. Tom Stern is well prepared and willing to offer suggestions to improve the recording when asked. Tom and Blue Velvet Studio musicians responded when additional feedback was sought. Each musician and Tom gave me my space to create.
