As a food lover and avid diner, I have had my fair share of disappointments when it comes to dining out. However, nothing could have prepared me for the water gumbo I recently had at Jarreau's. It was, without a doubt, the worst watery gumbo I have ever had in my life.
I ordered a bowl for the hefty price of $16. However, as soon as I took my first bite, my excitement quickly turned to disappointment. The gumbo was nothing more than a watery broth with a few sad pieces of seafood floating in it. The flavor was bland and lacked any depth or complexity that I had expected from a dish with such a steep price tag.
I tried to salvage the dish by adding some hot sauce and seasoning, but it was to no avail. The water gumbo remained unappetizing and unenjoyable. I struggled to finish even half of the bowl before pushing it away in defeat.
Feeling unsatisfied and out of pocket, I couldn't help but feel ripped off by this dining experience. $16 was a hefty price to pay for a dish that was essentially just flavored water. I couldn't believe that a restaurant with such a reputation could serve something so lackluster and disappointing.
The water gumbo I had at this restaurant was a complete letdown. It was not worth the $16 I paid for it, and I left feeling disappointed and unsatisfied. I would not recommend this dish to anyone, and I certainly won't be returning to this restaurant anytime soon. It goes to show that just because a restaurant has a good reputation, it doesn't always guarantee a good...
Read moreJarreau’s is an awesome restaurant across the board and it’s worth trying if you are in the False River area or if you are just passing through.
The seafood is excellent, the service and cleanliness are incredible, and they have a very friendly and hard-working staff. They’ve been open for several months now and they’ve only gotten better during that time. The owner or owner’s family are in there working every time I’ve gone there. This place is clearly very important to them and it shows in the impressive quality of food and excellent service.
Don’t forget to check out their cocktail and drink offering. And their lunch specials are always good (try the meat loaf if they have it). The dinner crowds can be large, so get there earlier if you can.
Another bonus - Jarreau’s turned a dark, empty corner of a neglected shopping center into a huge asset to the area. What they did to the old Deb’s diner building really is impressive. It’s a welcome addition to New Roads and...
Read moreMy sisters and I were first timers at Jarreau’s and we were not disappointed! Right away we were greeted by who I believe was the owner and he was so nice and informative! He said we must try the blueberry margarita and so we did! It was very delicious! Next, we order 3 different appetizers just to give ourselves a variety and all of them were good! The ravioli bites, the spinach and artichoke dip, and the Mac n Cheese bites. You can’t go wrong with any of them! We were all very full but knew we still wanted to try some entrees. I order The Acadian and my sisters order the grilled po boy sandwich and the red beans and rice! No one was disappointed! To go boxes were needed, but we weren’t leaving anything behind! Our server was very sweet and served us well! This place was packed on this particular Sunday afternoon, but I was happy to see it! We...
