La Cocina De Maria — Restaurant in New Roads

Seat yourself style restaurant. Nice location. Came in mid afternoon on Sunday. Seems to be a family ran restaurant which is a plus. Waitress took drink order promptly. And chips came soon after. That’s about the highlights of the positives. Salsa was definitely mild Pace out of a jar. Margarita was horrible, I could barely finish it. It tasted like a good margarita was watered down with dirty sink water. Ordered beef fajita torta, which was mediocre at best. Very bland. And i LOVE tortas. Was trying to find a new routine restaurant but very let down....

Wow! I was skeptical until I walked inside and then after eating a few gorditas... I was hooked. Very kind waitress excellent Mexican food. The menu is huge but well laid out. Desserts are displayed for your choosing. I think homemade. There are about 3 large tables that easily sit 6-8. Plus about 4 round tables all with comfortable seats. I ordered the chicken soup. Would've been outstanding except they must've read all these reviews and it was so spicy I couldn't eat it! Also ordered a pork tamale and it had a long strip of fat skin in it. 😳. Husband had fajitas.. and he said they weren't the worst he's ever had. I'm truly puzzled by people giving this place 5⭐️. To me, 5 stars means super excellent, elegant dining. Not a grocery store. And the chips were absolutely the worst w pace...
