We camped in New Ulm and decided to check out the bar(s), this place was very unwelcoming. Both staff and patrons made sure we didn't stay long, and it very much felt like one of those 'locals only' spots in the worst way. We were dressed in camp clothes (flannel mostly, a Minnesotan classic) and there were comments made about us smelling like 'bonfire' and about our outfits, even though everyone else in the bar was running the gamut of clothing from corsets and heels to hoodies (what's the vibe supposed to be?). so we had one watered down drink outside and closed out right away when originally we wanted to stay a while and relax. We went to what I'm guessing is one of the only other bars afterwards and they mentioned that B & L had that reputation of being rude to anyone that's non-local or the college...
Read moreWhat wonderful place! We spent a day in New Ulm and stopped at B & L, the owner Rick was bartending and was such a nice guy! It was so much fun to hear about how invested he is in his community! We never drive when we drink and we were having trouble finding an Uber, Rick offered to give us a ride back to our hotel, he left the bar in the hands of the other bartenders and drove us to the hotel!
