First off, this review is only about the venue, not the performance we saw. It is very difficult to know you are looking at a theater, because all over the building are signs identifying it as a middle school with a different name... weird right? I think the middle school is closed, adding to a pervasive depressing sense that hangs around the establishment. If you were in grade school in the 70s or 80s then you are familiar with how the inside looks, but with nothing whatsoever on the walls... it just looks like an old, abandoned grade school. The theater itself is large and the seating is well designed... but the space is very strange. The curtain, for example, is torn from ceiling to floor on one side ala the Temple curtain on Good Friday. Also, on the walls are enormous murals depicting the Dakota conflict... so there are more dead Native Americans being used as ornamentation than you are probably used to. If you are planning to catch a show here I would recommend a tour of the Schell's Brewery first to get you in an agreeable mindset. And remember, this is just an assessment of the theater space itself. It is rented out by a variety of troupes, so it is perfectly likely that you will still enjoy the performance while you are side eyeing...
