definitely an ok experience, but not really worth the journey or dealing with the chaos of rockefeller for.
our server was lovely but provided little to no explanation of the menu at all. from there, a lot of the dishes fell flat.
the tuna tartare, for one, comes deconstructed and looks pretty upon initial presentation. once mixed, it takes on a really bad look - brown chunky gloop, and the brown sauce begins to overpower everything else in the bowl.
the squash vase - again, disappointing. it’s basically hollowed squash with some warm, tasteless, mushy white stuff inside. boring and flavourless.
bread comes and is only 2 small pieces for (i believe it was $18.) they expect you to use some of the herbs used as table decor for garnishing… very odd.
we had a couple other dishes from the starter sections of the menu … they remain pretty, but unmemorable and (some of them) gimmicky.
i’d say my two favourites were the entrees. the pandan risotto was great, unexpected, and comforting. the lamb tacos as well, great, but came in an extremely tiny portion for the high price. it came with a confused, unseasoned fried lamb ball (not sure what that was about) which we could have done without.
dessert was second best to the entrees - the pumpkin cake was great.
all in all … ok expedience. was expecting a little more in all honesty. i feel like this chef hit it with olmsted but everything else has been a steady decline. like some investors trusted him with their cash a little too early into his career.
restaurant space itself is a little weird and should be mentioned — you are out in the open in an underground part of rockefeller plaza. not closed like the other restaurants nearby. it makes for a lot of noise - and the five acres team have packed in the tables.
as soon as we sat down we remarked it felt we were having dinner for 8, not just the two of us. our topic of conversation even ended up being the cause of an argument on the table next to us… not fun when they are less than a foot away from you.
weird, way too expensive, doesn’t have its footing, not...
Read moreunique location that proved ultimately disappointing. Be fully aware, as others have noted, that there is AUTOMATIC 20% gratuity added to the bill. So, unless the service blows you away, adding more is not really necessary. The location deep in the bowels of Rockefeller Center (Rink Level) was one of the only places we felt would meet our needs and was open after a late Sunday afternoon theater performance. Open air-no walls-dining area pretty much in the middle of the arcade shopping area. Seated promptly and offered beverages. It felt like the staff was short a body or two as waits for attention were long for there being only a few patrons. And it dwindled during our visit. It is hard to honestly say the service was worth the gratuity.
This lack of value continued into our meal. I am well aware that things cost more all around and the restaurant business is difficult and good labor is hard to attract and keep, etc. But if you have to charge $20+ for a glorified French Dip ($21) and a basic cheeseburger ($23) even if they come with fries, then maybe they should be replaced by other dishes. The French Dip is actually menu listed as a Chicago Beef Sandwich-the added house made Giardiniera being the only difference. We settled on these and after our wait, were disappointed to find dry sliced beef on one and a deeply well-done patty on the other. The au jus provided some solace on the sandwich, though it was quite salty to our taste, and more tomato condiment helped the burger. Servers asking the question on preferred doneness or a menu note would help with the burger situation. Fries were quite tasty. The meal filled us up and didn’t make us sick. From our one visit, can’t...

Took the whole family out for my mom’s birthday at 5 Acres Restaurant, right at Rockefeller Plaza (New York, NY 10112). We had an amazing time — the staff was incredibly attentive and made us feel so welcome!
🫶 We kicked things off with their spinach artichoke dip paired with black pepper toast bread — creamy and packed with flavor. Then came the chicken wings with Bayley Hayzen blue cheese, carrots, celery, and a spicy BBQ sauce that was spot on. We also couldn’t resist their hot salted pretzels with cheddar sauce and honey mustard — so tasty.
For the mains, we went all out: 🥪 Chicago Italian Beef with roast beef, green peppers, au jus, giardiniera on a hoagie roll — absolutely amazing. 🍗 Fried Chicken Sandwich with bacon, cheddar cheese, chipotle ranch, gem lettuce, tomato, and red onion on a brioche bun — my sister couldn’t stop raving about it. 🍔 Me and my mom went for the 5A Burger with caramelized onions, 5A sauce, cheddar, lettuce, and tomato — hands down one of the best burgers I’ve had in a long time.
We all topped it off with margaritas (no salt on the rim) — perfectly mixed. 🍹
Overall, this place is definitely a hidden gem in Rockefeller Plaza. Highly recommend checking it out if you’re in the area!
