Iâm really sad I didnât like it :(
As someone who works nearby, and likes to switch up my morning coffee place I thought black fox would be an instant favorite. They have a creative, elevated basic menu, the store is clean and is very aesthetically pleasing. I also like that they have their blends on display. You can tell the baristas are career baristas.
HoweverâŠ. Iâm sad to say this place is just not good. Iâve been a couple times, and tried to switch up my order a bunch, but Iâve regretted every time I went here. The black sesame chai (which sounds right up my alley) unfortunately tasted like teriyaki marinade, so salty and undrinkable. I tried their butterscotch latte, which tasted sour and honestly just like milk. I thought okay, let me try oat milk which is thinner than milk so I can taste the espresso next time. I got an oat milk vanilla date latte, and again it tasted like nothing but milk.
I think their espresso needs to be way more robust and less watery⊠canât say anything Iâve tasted from them had any coffee taste come through. And all this for 10$ a drinkâŠ? YeahâŠ. Itâs a no...
Read moreBlack Fox Coffee is hands down one of my favorite cafĂ©s in NYC. Even though itâs a chain, the location near Grand Central has become a regular stop for me. I usually think the espresso drinks I make at home are better than what I get in most commercial cafĂ©sâbut Black Fox is the exception. I often find myself happily walking a few blocks just to sit down with a latte or cortado. Every cup is consistently well-balanced, rich, creamy, and just straight-up enjoyable.
I also love picking up beans here. They roast their own, and while those have a very distinctive (and kind of wild) soy sauce aroma that might not be for everyone, they do carry the Red Brick from a UK roasterâand thatâs where the magic happens. Itâs a fruity, modern espresso thatâs smooth, sweet, and addictive in the best way.
The space is bright and well-designed, with a great retail selection of brewing gear, merch, and snacks. Itâs clear that they designed the space to be uncomfortable to not let you stay long. However, whether youâre a casual coffee drinker or a total espresso nerd, Black Fox...
Read moreGreat coffee spot! I was venturing around here on business and was looking for a new coffee place to try and so happy I came across this place (and the helpful reviews!) The storefront is nice and big, and the barista greeted me right away. They have a cool design in place of a mat that caught my eye. Before ordering and the menu I noticed they had a bunch of merchandise! Upon inspection everything was really high quality and desirable stuff (think Starbucks but Black Fox Coffee logos and merch). Iâm definitely getting some next time I return! They also had a nice display in their pastry case. I tried the iced Matcha dessert and was impressed; it was a nice treat. Their coffee was really good too. Hints of arabica but felt like a medium-dark roast which is closer to what I prefer. Really good stuff. Saw quite a few people going in and out while I enjoyed my order and hope the foot traffic stays high. The barista was also really nice and accommodating to all my small extra requests with no problems. Great spot! Definitely add it to your coffee tour if...
