Two stars = just okay. But I would put 1.5 if I could. One seemed too harsh.
It was challenging to pick a rating because one star is poor and three stars is good. Our stay was definitely not good, but I’m not sure it was poor either.
Basic facts: we paid about $380 for the room and I believe a $27 resort fee so overall a little over $400 for a one night stay. We stayed the Saturday after thanksgiving.
Let’s start with the good. Staff was incredibly friendly. We arrived at the hotel around 12 pm on Saturday and planned to just leave our luggage since check in isn’t until 4. Luckily they let us check in early so that was a great start. Location was perfect. Right off fifth so you could easily walk to stores, food places, and Central Park. Our room had a patio which is great for air. No view but the patio was still nice. Because it was a one night stay they also gave us a $10 credit for their mini bar/snacks.
The not so great. The room was very dusty. We ended up wearing our shoes in the room because our feet were black from the dust if we went barefoot. This honestly didn’t bother us that much since they have wood floors and we understand dust is normal. The room itself was okay. Nothing fancy, nothing great. There were a little things here and there, for example, the shower wasn’t the cleanest, but we were fine, not worth a complaint. When we came back around 10:30 pm the doorman and concierge were watching a game, we’re guessing basketball, so they didn’t greet us. Again not bad and we’re sports fanatics so we get it but since I’m writing this review I thought I’d point it out.
The REALLY BAD was when we got into bed and there was dried blood stains on our comforter and yellow stains (If I can attach photos I will). So dust is not bad, yellow stains are gross but not that bad, but blood stains is unsanitary and calls for a potential health inspection. Diseases can be transferred through blood so this obviously freaked us out. We called the front desk, told them, and asked for a new comforter. They did apologize and came up quickly, but they came with a thin grey blanket. It’s end of November so it’s pretty chilly and we thought this was odd. The room has heat so we just turned the heat up but the blanket was also stained. Again if I can post photos I will. It was stained in the sense that maybe bleach was previously used and changed the grey fabric to yellow. Also, they did not take the blood blanket and just left it in our room.
I tried to find someone on their website to contact about this but the only thing they have is their front desk email which didn’t seem appropriate. We previously also emailed their front desk and they didn’t timely respond, we had to email them twice to finally get a response.
They were obviously aware that we had blood on our bed sheets and still nothing was done to apologize to us for the blood issues and it just seemed like a lot of issues for $400/night.
We fly to New York multiple times a year to visit family and we like to try hotels to find favorites in different areas. We won’t be back to the Gotham. New York is filled with hotels, so if you can stay elsewhere, I’d recommend...
Read moreMy husband and I stayed here July 2025 in order to use our The Guestbook funds. We had not heard of the hotel before, but it had great reviews, so we decided to give it a try and glad we did! We checked in at midnight after a 12-hour travel day packed with delays and storms. The receptionist was amazing! He was friendly, took his time helping us regarding late check out and such. The room was extremely spacious for a NYC boutique hotel. Clean and very nice decor. Bathroom shower was huge with a rain shower and nice luxury handle to use which is handy if you have kids. Floor to ceiling windows that bring in a ton of light but also have blackout and privacy shades if needed. Bed was comfortable but the pillows OMG like sleeping on clouds!! I had to work while here and the internet was surprisingly extremely fast. I had no issues at all! The restaurant inside the hotel was amazing! The food was fresh, hot and fast. great options to choose from. Full bar as well. Nice small cozy atmosphere. Staff there were friendly and did a great job. As we were walking through the hotel, we had run into Shaun who was very gracious with offering to help with anything we needed, same with housekeeping, very generous and offered their help with anything we needed. They were quick to give extra towels with no issues. Doorman Olsi was a breath of fresh air. He is the first person you see when you arrive and always has a smile on his face and is quick to help. Amazing personality and conversation. All in all, the hotel staff all went out of their way to make us feel welcome, at home and comfortable. The hotel is in walking distance to Grand Central which makes it easy to get to anywhere. There are tons of things to do within walking distance as well. We will definitely be staying at this hotel again and highly...
Read moreIf you're looking for a sizeable room for your next trip, I highly suggest that you look into the Gotham Hotel. Located in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, without the bustle of the crowded foot traffic. You'll find it on the side street of 45th.
Although I was not the individual who made the reservation, I could not check in to the room once I arrived. The staff was kind enough to hold my bags until my cousin arrived to check us in. Every time we exited and return to the hotel, we were always greeted. I mean it when I say how accommodating the staff was.
If you're looking for things to get into while you're visiting. The hotel isn't but a 5 minute walk to Rockefeller Plaza, 5th Avenue, Times Square and all the shopping you heart desires. You're also minutes and I mean minutes from Grand Central Terminal. The Summit which has breathtaking views of the city is a 7 minute walk from the Hotel ($50).
Let's get in to the rooms! New York is notorious for their small quarters when it comes to hotel rooms as well as living spaces. This room was not that. We had a king size bed and still had space to do a cartwheel in the room. Although neither of us tried, I only wanted to give you a visual. The shower was a little interesting as it had a rainfall shower head as well as a hand held. You cannot turn both on but must choose one or the other. My only reason for giving the room 4-stars is because the floors were filthy. However, I believe that the hotel knew that this was bound to happen seeing that it''s NYC. If you look in the closet on the upper shelf, they'll have a (2) pair of slippers waiting for you. It beats dirty-ing your socks up. Which will take all of 30 seconds to get pitch black.
Besides that one singular gripe, I look forward to returning for a visit to the Gotham Hotel. Our...
