I was pleasantly surprised at the atmosphere of the diner upon walking in, so with high expectations I dined at Blue Bay Diner. I can say with confidence that those expectations were misplaced.
Service: 1/5 I came in at a decently crowded time, where about 50% of the restaurant was full. However, I saw my waiter a grand total of 2 times: one to take our order, and another to give us our check. As for taking our orders, he was dismissive and barely even glanced at us, and didn’t say anything besides ‘anything else?’. My table also had to ask multiple times for refills on water and coffee, as the waitstaff seemed to just forget once they were asked.
Food: 5/5 I ordered corned beef hash with two eggs, which came with another side of hash and two slices of toast. The food was absolutely spectacular, being some of the best hash I’ve eaten. However, someone else at my table ordered a burger, cooked medium well. It came more cooked than well done, without a single trace of pink inside. Aside from that, the food was spectacular.
Atmosphere: 4/5 The atmosphere is just superb inside the diner. The counter, the decor, the music, and the overall feel of the place was just unmatched. Everything just radiates top-quality diner energy, which is just wonderful. However, I’m not a fan of the chairs as they were slightly uncomfortable and the space between tables is a bit tight.
I must also add that the price is definitely up there. I ended up paying 22-ish dollars for a plain hamburger deluxe. Compared to some other diners, the price is quite high. The prices of dinners, combos and anything else is definitely in the upper range, especially compared to other diners. You might end up spending quite a bit here, and the price tag might not be worth it.
Overall, the food and atmosphere are wonderful but ultimately undercut by the lackluster service. Blue Bay Diner is definitely a decent diner, with great food and atmosphere, but the prices and subpar service make it one of the lower-tiered diners...
Read moreA friend and I went to Blue Bay diner yesterday for lunch.
I have been a customer of Blue Bay diner for over 40 years and I have to say that yesterday was a total disappointment.
I had ordered a BLT sandwich on white toast.Upon its arrival i noticed that there was only two pieces of bacon on the sandwich.I showed my friend and she was shocked. Please keep in mind that it was on two large slices of white bread also know as country white. Two pieces of bacon makes for a BLT sandwich?
The waiter asked if everything was OK and I said “actually no ,it’s not.”I told him of the two mere pieces of bacon on the sandwich and he said “would you like me to bring you more?“ And I said” yes, I would appreciate that.” He came out of the kitchen with two pieces of bacon on the plate. I might also add that the white sliced bread is rubbery and very hard to eat. It’s like taffy. I later spoke to a relative who frequents this diner often and she said to me “Oh gee I should’ve told you never to order the white bread there. It’s terrible.”
I’d recently had a BLT sandwich at a Nassau County diner but 15 minutes away from Blue Bay diner. The difference is unbelievable. The one in the Nassau County diner had a very good amount of at least 2 to 3 inches high of bacon.
Did Blue Bay diner run out of bacon? Is Blue Bay diner economizing in light of the current economic inflation? Is this the current trend of less product for a higher price?
It is little things like this that plant the seed for the loss of customers, and as we have seen in recent years due to the pandemic, the unfortunate demise of many restaurants and diners
In closing, perhaps Blue Bay diner should now modify their menu and rather than listing BLT sandwich they should now refer to it...
Read moreWorst experience ever. Upon arrival, they require you to show proof of vaccination, which is clearly not an issue. While presenting my card with my photo ID, the young lady proceeds to hand it over to a fellow male waiter to review it. The purpose of that is still null in void. It was as if she either couldn't read or she thought it needed further validation. The male waiter then takes us to an overcrowded part of the diner to eat. I politely ask the waiter and waitress if it was possible to sit in the area that had several empty booths and tables. Once we exited the dining area, I asked the waiter if it was ok to sit in the one of many, and I mean many vacant booths. He said no because “Some were not yet sanitized, and the others were for larger parties”. Fine, no problem. I'm all for complying with rules and regulations, however; the irony within the situation is while my spouse and I were waiting for our breakfast to be made, we are noticing the same tables he vehemently denied us to sit in suddenly became occupied with parties of two, and weren't even sanitized. We then decided to just leave. What is the point of having a business to hire waiters and waitress that make your business look bad by providing terrible customer service. It's so easy to give a paying customer such a minor thing like better seating. Given the fact we are still in a pandemic and many businesses have closed because of occupancy restrictions as well as vaccination requirements. Don't give a customer a hard time for something so small, and then make them watch you provide the same service you just denied to them to another. Disgusting. Never going there ever again. And I also will share this story with all the individuals I know that prefer booths...
