Let me start by saying that I’ve been driving to Dykeman for Cachapas for almost a decade now. This is one of my favorite places in NYC to eat so to say I’m excited about them being in BK (I had no idea) is an UNDERSTATEMENT! My first experience here was incredible and like none before. Let me be clear, there is ALWAYS a line for Cachapas in Dykeman that I’ve gladly waited in through rain, sleet or snow; and I DO NOT wait in lines. The beauty of the BK location is that it’s still a hidden gem that most don’t know about it yet so there was no line. I was shocked, but also so excited to have a more personal experience. Luis-Enrique made me feel like I was visiting my family’s Resturant. He even went as far as to bring my food to the car. He was so patient and that’s probably the fastest I’ve ever gotten my Yo-yo before; although they’re worth the wait. I don’t eat meat anymore but the vegan yo-yo did not disappoint. And the passion fruit juice…my goodness! It’s probably the best I’ve had in the states and the consistency (which I care for a lot) of the food and juice carried right over from uptown to BK. I thoroughly enjoyed my first visit to this location and please believe it will NOT be the last. I love Cachapas and wish nothing but success and prosperity over this...

So where do I begin, I had only had Arepas once before and it was REALLY REALLY GOOD, so naturally I had high expectations. I found this place on google and I tried my luck. The couple who owned the place were so nice. They were talking to me about what I like, and explaining the different types/categories of food. You can tell they really wanted me to enjoy. Since I am new to Venezuelan cousins, I had so many questions. The owner answered all of them. I ended up getting a vegan arepas along with some Venezuelan cheese. The food was so delicious and extremely fresh. I also had some authentic Venezuelan lemonade with sugar cane. Each table had three sauces to pour onto the arepas and I only tried two and both of them were delicious. The owner and his wife came to check out how I liked the food. The owner told me these recipes are his wife's and grandma's recipes. This place was amazing. Not only the food but the experience as well. I would highly recommend even if you have never tried this...

The shredded chicken sweet plantain sandwich is my absolute favorite here. I also love the potato empanadas. I’m a regular and the quality is always consistent. The staff is jovial and the place is clean…that’s important to me. It’s my go to spot when I can’t think of anything else to eat because it never disappoints.

Update: I don’t know what went wrong this last visit but my sandwich just completely missed the mark. The plantain bun was too thin and dry so everything was falling apart. The fried cheese, lettuce and tomatoes were a fraction of what they normally are. And the sandwiches were not hot. I complained and it was taken back. I took the replacement to go but I didn’t enjoy it either. My husband didn’t enjoy his...

Last night was a horrific experience. We have been ordering from this restaurant for years. Very few issues, yet now things have changed. One of the sandwiches we always order is a yoyo (sweet plaintain), not patacón (too bitter). When we called the restaurant to explain, they refused to bring to bring me the correct order. In fact, the ladies kept hanging up the phone on me (said they did not understand English… ironically, they do when we place our orders and spend our money… not when they make a mistake). Unfortunately, we were not able to eat the sandwich which defeat the purpose of ordering in. Plus, we always tip their driver well so we were double disappointed. From now on, we will take our service elsewhere.

I think it goes without saying that Cachapas Brooklyn rocks at its namesake cachapas (and of course the Venezuelan standards - burgers, taquenos, patacones, arepas stuffed to the brim). But this place’s ** Yoyos ** (a overstuffed sandwich such that the bread is replaced by soft, extra ripe plantains) allows it to stand out at an extraordinary level of culinary prowess. Even in cities in Latin America with large Venezuelan populations that I’ve visited (ie bogota), high quality yoyos are far harder to find than arepas and cachapas. The yoyos here are extraordinary- so crunchy and crispy on the outside yet radiating sugary juices of umami into the saltiness of the Pernil (the roasted pork beneath) and cheese .
