I had the extremely rare opportunity to be in Brooklyn, near the Barclay's Center on Thursday, 3/22/18 around lunchtime, so I took that opportunity to try someplace new. I googled "food near me" and "best food in Brooklyn" and both times Chuko came up. Its only a few minute walk from the Barclay's so I decided to go check it out. When I arrived, it wasn't open yet because it was only 11:45am and they don't open until noon. It was very cold standing out front for 15 minutes and I was hoping they would open the doors a little early and let me in, but they didn't. Oh well, the food was worth the wait. I started off by ordering a steamed pork bun. It was definitely the best pork bun that I've ever had. The pork was a thick slab of soft and juicy pork belly, with pickled carrots and cucumbers and chili mayo on a soft and warm bao bun. Excellent!! For my ramen, I went with the pork bone broth, soft egg and roasted pork. I've only had ramen at two restaurants on Long Island, but this blew them both out of the water! The broth was amazing, there were a ton of noodles in the bowl, the mushrooms were flavorful, the egg was poached perfectly and the pork was more of the soft, tender, delicious, thick sliced pork belly that was also in the bun. My only complaint is that I wish there was more pork in the bowl! Getting into Brooklyn isn't easy, but is definitely worth it to go to Chuko! I can't wait to have the exact same order the next time I'm there!!

So unbelievably disappointing. We ordered via Postmates and when our 2 ramens and tots arrived, the noodles were cold. Not just like cold from being outside, but refrigerator cold. Then I see this piece of paper stapled to the bag instructing us to literally heat the food. Cooking dinner was quite literally the opposite of what I was trying to do tonight. Nevertheless, I heated up the ramen. Turns out, it's also just really bad. Super bland, even after adding salt, there is absolutely no intrinsic flavor. Might I also add that it's exorbitantly expensive. The ramen shows a base price of $17 but to add literally anything to it (scallions, meat, egg) it's a few dollars on top. The tots were $13 and got about 10 tots and ironically were too salty. Geez. I am super confused as to how this place has gotten any hype, perhaps it's old hype and things have changed but this place is not good. There is no love or thought put into the food or the customer experience. Handing over ice cold noodles that you definitely parsed out earlier in the day or week does not make your customers feel like you care at all about what you are doing. This place needs an overhaul: new broth, new system for takeout and better meat supplier.

My colleague and I had to attend an offsite training nearby and were looking to find something nearby to lunch and he googled and found this ramen place within 0.2 miles walking distance from where we were. We ordered two bowl of ramen, one soy ramen and one miso ramen. Surprisingly there were no meat (Japanese roasted pork or cha siu) to come with ramen and they somehow served as side order and cost $1.50 per a piece of roasted pork, and one pouched egg also cost another $1.50. The miso ramen used yellow original ramen noodle, with butternut squash and cabbage and not the usual ingredients used for Japanese Style ramen, the soup base was just fair. My colleague ordered a soy ramen with buck wheat noodle, scallion and nori, and he said it’s too oily for the soy ramen. He paid over $37.00 for 2 bowl of ramen for lunch and this is pricey for this neighborhood.

I am writing to express my deep disappointment regarding my recent visit to your restaurant on April 8th around 8 PM. As a fellow business owner and someone who has genuinely enjoyed dining at Chuko in the past, I felt compelled to share this feedback directly with you. This experience was not entirely the fault of the business owner, but rather the staff.

On that evening, my husband, two close friends, and I visited your establishment for drinks and appetizers. I apologize for the delay in writing this review, as I was traveling shortly after and have only recently returned. I wanted to share our experience through email to provide you with the opportunity to address our concerns privately, rather than posting a public review.

For years, we have been loyal patrons of Chuko, consistently visiting your restaurant, referring others to it, and even bringing our friends along. Regrettably, our most recent visit was nothing short of disastrous. The service we received from your staff was shockingly unprofessional and left us feeling extremely upset.

When we explained to your personnel that we had a dinner reservation elsewhere and would only be ordering drinks and appetizers, we were met with an astonishing level of rudeness. Your staff members not only lacked understanding but also practically forced us out of the establishment. They prevented us from finishing our drinks and showed an utter disregard for basic customer service.

As longtime supporters of Chuko, we were genuinely hurt and appalled by the treatment we received. It is disheartening to have such an unpleasant experience at a place we hold dear. I felt it was crucial to bring this matter to your attention, as it reflects poorly on the reputation of your restaurant and the high standards we have come to expect.

I sincerely hope that immediate action is taken to address this issue and reevaluate the conduct of your staff. While we have cherished the quality of your food and the overall atmosphere at Chuko, this unfortunate incident has made us reconsider our loyalty. I believe that acknowledging and rectifying this situation can restore our faith in the exceptional service we once associated with your establishment.

I regret that there was no available contact section on your website, which prevented me from reaching out directly. Nonetheless, I trust that this review will reach the appropriate individuals who can address this matter and ensure that such incidents do not recur in the future.

Thank you for taking the time to read this complaint review. I hope you consider this feedback as an opportunity for growth and...
