I am awarding this establishment a one-star rating, not based on Shizuka's skills - she is excellent at what she does. However, the reason for this low rating stems from the lack of professionalism and attitude displayed by the owner. I have been a customer here for two years. On April 3, I had a scheduled appointment, which the owner texted me about on March 28, requesting that I arrive 30 minutes earlier, to which I complied.

Historically, even before the onset of COVID-19, I have always made it a point to wash my hands upon arrival. During the winter months, the owner used to greet customers and take their coats. However, with the pandemic, hand washing was enforced. On the specific day in question, upon my arrival, I proceeded to the bathroom as usual. Upon approaching the owner's area, she rudely shouted at me, questioning whether I had washed my hands, displaying a disrespectful attitude. Throughout my nail appointment, I felt uncomfortable, and she provided me with a design that was not in line with my usual preferences. Upon sharing my experience with my husband, he suggested finding a new nail salon.

Feeling the need to express my feelings, I reached out to the owner. Initially, she did not respond, but later explained that she was merely trying to protect her staff, herself, and her unborn child, as someone who had visited the salon had COVID-19. While I understood her concern for safety, it was her disrespectful tone that left a lasting impact.

In the following weeks, I tried to book appointments only to find them being mysteriously canceled. The salon attributed this to a system glitch, but I found it hard to believe, especially when I noticed that I was blocked from accessing the salon's social media pages. I messaged the owner from another account, expressing my frustration. She claimed it was a computer error, but ultimately stated that she no longer wished to provide me with nail services due to what she perceived as disrespect...

I went to Migak for several months. It’s a fantastic place for nail art, and their polish selection is unparalleled—an amazing collection of jelly colors, cat eye, chrome powder, etc. That said, after a lot of broken nails, I decided to switch salons. If you’re trying to grow your natural nails long, you know that gentle prep is really important, as is making a strong, structured overlay with the gel, taking care to build the apex properly. In this regard, I felt like the techs at Migak didn’t always have as much attention to detail as I’d have liked. It could also be the particular gel formula they used, I’m not sure. Whatever the case, as my nails grew longer, I started to get a lot of cracking and broken nails where before I could last 3-4 weeks without any issues. Last time, I had five that broke. I know this happens sometimes, but when I asked them if there was a way to prevent it, it didn’t feel like they had much strategy or insight into why this was happening. Migak isn’t a chop shop by ANY means, but a tech at a new place noted I had some rings of fire on my nails too. If you keep your nails short (barely past the fingertip), want to use Gel-X tips, or just have super strong nails that can take a lot of abuse, then Migak could be good. My new favorite nail salon in Brooklyn! Shizuka is so talented! I’m beyond impressed. Not knowing what exactly what I wanted, I showed some inspirational photos to her and she immediately got what’s in my mind by designing a look. I’m obsessed with my nail art! The entire experience was so pleasant and the gel experience was totally different from my previous ones. My nails were not violently sanded down to very thin. I have a really good sense that my nails will be healthy instead of being damaged. The space is also beautiful and clean. Highly recommended!
