I typically refrain from writing negative reviews; however, my experience this evening has left me disappointed and hurt. I was asked to leave this restaurant, seemingly due to being the only Black patron present. Upon my arrival, I was filled with anticipation, as I had dined here multiple times during the summer and had thoroughly enjoyed my visits. In fact, I had intended to collaborate with the restaurant to feature them on my TikTok page, which showcases eateries in New York City. After a demanding week at work, I looked forward to reading, enjoying my meal, indulging in dessert, and enjoying a glass of wine. Upon entering, the hostess welcomed me to a table without mentioning any upcoming reservations. Had I been informed, I would have chosen to dine elsewhere. The first red flag, was when the waitress approached me asking if I was ready to order but never made mention of the taco special, yet shortly thereafter, when two young white women were seated, she enthusiastically described the taco special of the evening. Having worked in the hospitality industry, I recognized that this could have been an oversight on her part, so I chose not to address it. After finishing my tacos, the waitress inquired if I needed a box. When she returned she did not offer dessert options, although I overheard her presenting them to the table beside me. Instead, she brought the bill. At this time, I requested to see the dessert menu, to which she responded with apparent annoyance. After a few moments, she asked if I had made a decision because a new reservation had just arrived. I observed that there were six available tables that could easily accommodate a party of two. She then claimed that the hostess had informed me that there was a reservation on the way. I intended to enjoy my Saturday night dinner and would not have remained if I had known there was a time limit. I had been there for less than an hour. When I requested to speak with a manager, he attributed the issue to the hostess, and when I questioned the availability of the other tables, he stated they were reserved for other guests. I surveyed my surroundings and observed another girl sitting at a table meant for two. Unlike me, she was not a Black woman, which seemingly permitted her to remain. While I typically refrain from invoking race in discussions, the circumstances surrounding my removal just 40 minutes into my meal left me with no other rationale. I left the situation feeling both embarrassed and wounded by...
Read moreThe ONLY reasons I gave this place a 3 star is because the cocktails were AMAZING! For the place to be simply decorated, it was still a nice intimate ambiance and the menu included food fare that was familiar, but with a twist. So instead of beef or pork ribs, they have lamb ribs and instead of chicken tacos, they have mahi mahi tacos. Also, this restaurant holds it down for vegetarians and vegans alike. They have many options for the herbivores of NYC.
Now for the cons: I live in NYC where sometimes going out to eat is overpriced, but that's because they over feed you right??? Well here this is NOT the case; they bust you over the head for what you think is "dinner" and BOOM you get tapas! My boyfriend and I were so confused. The menu definitely says DINNER, but what you get isn't dinner, you get a snack. Oh and clearly it's something that is known by staff within the restaurant because as my boyfriend is looking over the menu, the waitress states that maybe he should order two because the dishes aren't that big đ. At first, I thought she was throwing shade at my honey because he's chubby, but once we got our food I saw she wasn't lying. As much as I enjoyed my cocktail, my tacos were soggy and falling apart, not to mention the food was just ok and not filling at all.
So unless you want to get hustled out of money by ordering multiple dinner plates that are the size of non-shareable tapas, you may want to explore other options. However, if you want to grab a drink or cocktail this is a nice cozy...
