Heartland Bagels — Restaurant in New York

Not sure how this place is still open at this point. I thought it was just me but after reading the comments I realized everyone else has had the same experience. It’s over priced garbage, the people who work there are gross and have attitudes on top of it. I wouldn’t care if they weren’t rude everytime you went in there. They are so incompetent it’s like you want to go in there and start managing the employees yourself. Besides being rude and incompetent, the employees have no idea how to handle a line and everyone just stands in your way in a small space because the employees there are not doing their job right. The employees don’t even address you and have a disgusting attitude for absolutely no reason or just stare like they’re slow. Many times my simple, easy order has been wrong and the other employees just defend the employee who made the mistake and not only that because mistakes happen but took an hour to do so. I’m honestly posting this just so the owner possibly sees it and fires whoever was working today. She has a gross attitude and I’m actually uncomfortable seeing her face. She stared at me upon me walking in and I don’t know her at all. She’s also stealing from the register. I paid for one thing and she put in that I paid more and threw the rest in the the tip jar. Check the cameras. Again I wouldn’t even care about someone else’s business like this but I’m honestly sick of seeing her and this place is the closest to my area but I’m about to stop going here all together just because of the disgusting employees. Other employees are also rude and incompetent but not to the same degree as her just because she stares everytime you walk in for no reason and I just do not like her attitude at all. I leave here mad 3/4 times. I’ve also seen them fight with customers who ARE PAYING for something over not wanting to toast a bagel. They should be doing whatever the customer paid for happily or they should have no job and be unemployed. this place like a disgusting joke. Many times I waited 20+ minutes for one thing. The customer service is absolutely the grossest thing I’ve ever seen and I get annoyed I just paid them everytime I walk out. They have no idea how to say thank you or you’re welcome or address people at all. I don’t know how they have jobs anywhere to be honest. I’m not sure why they stare at people when they’re the ones incompetent of barely even speaking. The one stealing was working December 28th at 2pm and is a dark skinned “woman”. I am honestly sick of seeing her staring at me and having a gross attitude when I do not even know her. I also want to say it’s like a joke they can’t even address you when your food is done because they’re so incompetent and it just gets hectic people stand there in a small cluttered space because the employees forgot how to speak suddenly and can’t give people their orders unless the person is actively paying attention for a weird eye signal instead of them just saying it’s done. Also most of them can’t even speak English well so they don’t understand what should be a simple sentence in English. Definitely going to be losing customers. It is extremely over priced and the food is just ok at best but the only way I would go there is if the staff but especially whoever was working today was all fired and replaced and clearly everyone else agrees. I don’t know if the owner just doesn’t see this but I’m kind of shocked there is an owner at all if the employees there have a job. I’m even sick of seeing them give OTHER people an attitude and have a job still. I’ve gone here for years because I’m close to it but it’s been getting worse even though it was always incompetent and disgusting rude employees. It’s like a circus in there. I would be happy to see this place lose and go out of business after dealing with their disgusting attitudes everytime I get something from there if they can’t just fire the employees and replace them and somehow actually train the...

I remember a Heartland bagels from 25-30 years ago. They had the best bagels in Staten Island and in New York City. The past year and a half the bagels unfortunately are not what they used to be for example an everything bagel has very little seasoning on it and the size of the bagel are tiny compared to what they used to be. I and I’m sure like others don’t mind paying more just don’t mess with the original recipe. And when you order egg over medium and you constantly get oh well done egg on a so called Everything bagel, I just feel cheated and I thought I would never say this but I don’t think I’m going to be ordering there anymore. Below are a few pictures of what I’m talking about, anyone that knows heartland bagels knows these are not everything bagels. And you can clearly see the egg is well done. Very disappointed! Went from the best to just OK sadly! Just my opinion and again, I wouldn’t mind paying if I was getting heartland bagels!! Edited: I had to drop this down to one star and i'd go 0 if possible. Everything below is still true. The reason I'm lowering to the lowest possible rating is because of the regularity of getting orders wrong. I understand no place is perfect but this place just cannot get it together. 3 out of the last 4 orders of mine were all wrong in some way. How can I in any good conscious give any sort of positive rating when they cant even do the bare minimum and give me what i paid for greater than half time. The manager/owner needs to really wake up and start paying attention to whats going. Nostalgia can only keep a business running so long.

Bagels are usually good here although very inconsistent. The big problem with this place is that the employees cannot get orders right. Its shocking how often this place gets orders wrong. Sometimes its something as simple as not toasting the bagel or sometimes they even use the wrong bagel, or they even make the wrong kind of eggs. Its disappointing to get home and see your order is wrong. Since its only a cheap breakfast sandwich, its not worth it to go back and have it fixed.
