CHINA (SICHUAN) 🇨🇳 Excerpt from Eat the World NYC: While spicy Sichuan favorites like tabletop pan-grilled whole fish are hardly new, restaurants focusing on the dish are, about five or six years past when they started becoming massive in China. Sunset Park has seen a few places with the dish front and center on the menu, even in more general Sichuan restaurants. The menu is not in the most efficient order for first-time customers to the restaurant, but basically you check the box for the type of fish you want, then choose a "flavor" and finally the vegetables you would like to be cooked along with the fish when it arrives at your table. The fish that ended up on the table this night was a big mouth bass ($59.95), the most expensive of the offerings. Some sauces can add more to the bill, but most come with the price of the fish as this spicy tofu pudding did. For the first round here, the restaurant did the work of picking the vegetables. The golden combination ($9) includes enoki mushrooms, potato, lotus root, and kelp, and does a great job adding texture and flavor to the meal without taking away the focus from the fish.

I’ve been to this place so many times and just realized I never left a review. This is our go to date night (or lunch) place. Aside from the food, my wife loves the Chinese music playing on the karaoke screen. The service is impeccable. Waiters are constantly watching out for you and proactively asking if you want a change of plates, more water napkins etc. Food - I’ve tried most of the hot pot dishes. Favorite is the fresh pepper flavor frog. Sides to get are the arctic clams, bbq pig foot, lamb and beef skewers, okra, oyster. Just a note, There’s not a lot of non spicy food. My kids usually get the udon.

Four of us came to eat here on a Monday evening and still had a 20 minute wait. It just goes to show how popular this place is. This seems to be one of a number of eateries in Sunset Park, seemingly run by, and staffed by a much younger people than the older establishments. The staff were very friendly and professional. The decor is much more modern than the old school places. Hot Space has a large TV screen showing mostly Chinese and Taiwanese pop vidoes along with a few western ones. This is a fish place and for the most part it is about fish served in a hot and spicy oil along with your choice of vegetables and tofu in with it. We had a whole fish, on the bone, but they also have dishes where the fish is already filleted if you are feeling lazy. The food was excellent, and it filled four of us up. We managed to get through the whole dish and we all felt that it was great value for the money. This is a great place to come...

The establishment is for those who enjoy an experience of a meal in an open flame rectangle metal pot. The flavors are unique and the taste is for those who familiar with the style of cooking. The crowd is mainly for the young and trendy. The customer service is very attentive and accommodating. Prices vary but is on the upper end when ordering freshly cooked fish, hence the symbolic logo. The back end of the room shows a karaoke style backdrop of whatever music is playing. Not sure if it is really for special nights of karaoke or for just display only. Overall a pleasant experience. This place gets busy quickly. Always a line but they get...
