Busy little park located between 5th and 7th avenues, and 41st and 44th streets; this is without doubt, everyones backyard. It has been improving their installations this year newplaygrounds and swing area for children, nice looking fences for preserved areas.
Entrances available on all corners of this perfectly rectangular shaped park and also at middle points on each side located at 6 Ave on 41st and 44th and 43rd on 5th and 7th; the later one is the main entrance, there's access ramp on the corner of 7th and 44th and the ground is leveled on the entrance of 6th and 44th, all the others offer access by stairs only.
Yes, stairs means this park is on a little hill, but is just tall enough to offer a nice view of skyline NYC South and you can find the Statue of Liberty as well.
Within the park you will find well maintained benches, most of them offering a nice place to appreciate the view, there's a section with tables ready for a chess, checkers or any board game of your preference.
Open green areas are always available for everyone to enjoy, near the center, a soccer court, some basketball, volleyball outdoor courts always busy with happy customers can tell you how much good this park does for it's community.
By the main entrance, you can find a building enclosing offices, a public and affordable gym, indoor basketball and volleyball court and on the back of the building a fenced public pool.
This is a place where you can see diversity at it's best.
The park is always joyful and busy, it's always a pleasure to spend some time in nature...
Read moreIt's a small park and nice to have, but really isn't much too it besides the views of lower Manhattan since it's on a hill. Has a basketball court, handball and public outdoor swimming pool. It is easily crowded and noisy on the weekends and summer early evenings, being small and a neighborhood park.
I wish the neighborhood took more pride in this park and kept it cleaner. Tons of garbage and plastic bags, bottles and trash left everywhere and no one seems to pick up after themselves and the grass needs more tending too and the landscaping could be better cared for by the Parks Department and or neighborhood/schools/garden community.
With that said it is however a diverse mix of Spanish and Chinese which gives it a unique cultural experience. You have the evening Tai Chi and Chinese line exercises which is great to watch and makes you think you've traveled to another part of the world and the park itself, is very family oriented with young and old enjoying it.
It does keep to its name sake "Sunset Park" offering beautiful sunset views. With the diversity, there is plenty of eats around and cheap stores and fruit stands. I wouldn't dismiss going outdoors and enjoying the park, just would be great to keep it cleaner and have more thoughtful people pick up after themselves from a picnic,...
