tl;dr: You get what you pay for. Nice staff. Good wifi. Wouldn't eat free breakfast. Room could have been cleaner.
If you want specific details, keep reading ... A typical stay in a decent hotel is $200-$400 a night, so for $88 a night, for a 1 bed room, I can't complain. I only needed to stay one night so it wasn't a huge deal. Despite the condition of the neighborhood, this hotel is in a good safe area. I've lived in this neighborhood for years. I live only a few blocks away from the hotel and just needed one night for an argument with a roommate to air out, so I can vouch it's a safe area. It's a very diverse neighborhood of Mexicans, Bengali Muslims, Hasidic Jews and Chinese, so, don't be discouraged by the way everything around the area looks. The area isn't sketchy, it's just old and worn down but the people here are very nice and kind, so if you want to walk around or jog any time of day or night, you have no worries but still be cautious because there isn't much lighting in that spot. Still be cautious. The neighborhood is very orthodox though so you're not going to find a bunch of mainstream stuff around, you'll need to go to the nearby neighborhoods of Flatbush, or further west into Sunset Park there's a few small shopping centers or Downtown Brooklyn for that where the mall is. There is a McDonalds, Burger King, and a chain of little mom and pop shops in walking distance of the hotel but that's it. You'll be in the middle of a residential neighborhood so there is nothing to see here. If you're a tourist or not familiar with the area, do not think that the huge green patch on Google maps beside the hotel is a park. It is not. It's a massive graveyard and you will see it when you open your window if you get a room facing that direction.
The wifi was good; I was able to play games on my Nintendo Switch to pass the time. It had some trouble when I made some Voip calls though. The room floors smelled of weed but it wasn't strong; honestly I didn't care but if that matters to you, then now you know. The walls are paper thin. I could hear everything echoing going on in the hallway; when someone shut a door, were talking, random noises, etc. So don't expect this place to be quiet. Also, there's construction going on across the street and it's noisy. But the place is in better shape than many apartments. It was cozy and clean for the most part. The receptionists were very helpful and nice and helped me into my room when I had trouble getting the key card to work.
My only real peeves were there was no full length mirror and they have tiled floors with no carpet so it was always cold when it was already cool inside the room. Also, a slip-hazard when coming out the tub so I'd recommend bringing flip flops. Luckily I did bring mine. The shower was great, good water pressure. Housekeeping left a dirty washcloth with makeup on it in my room -_-
You can tell they have used furniture because everything had some kind of chip or scuff on it. Bed was hard as a rock and uncomfortable. Blankets were extremely worn out, found a hole in the sheet. They also have a hair problem. Found random long strands of hair in my bedroom and bathroom. Don't know if it's from the previous person or from staff, but I noticed two housekeeping staff, both had long black hair and neither were wearing hair nets so the hotel should give their staff some hair nets and clean better. Ijs.
The vending machine was outside and only had water. The "free breakfast" consisted of a separate small "cafeteria" with cereal stashed away in some container. Eat at your own risk. The donut bin was empty all for 2 donuts who knows how long they'd been in there. Crumbs everywhere and someone left a container out. Looks like employees share the same eating area because there appeared to be tupperware containers on some of the tables. I opted to just drink the tea and found the hot water tap up much too high for someone short to reach it.
But like I said, I paid bottom dollar for one night. I wouldn't stay here again unless it was my...
Read moreThey rent rooms by the 3 hours so you know the type of place it is. Walls are thin and your whole stay is clearly audible in the hallways. Elevator always broken and super slow. No blanket just thin sheets. Floors are always filthy in every single room. Not a single one of the toilets flush properly so expect to be looking at that your whole stay. There is a glass window in between the bathroom and bed in every single room so if you want any shred of privacy from other guests in the room during your stay. There is a piece of plastic film on the glass so you can only see crisp shadows of exactly what’s going on in the bathroom but the edge of the film isn’t large enough to cover the entire glass window so there like a quarter inch of crystal clear glass view into the bathroom around the edge. The cleaning lady is in the hallway 24/7 bc she’s always cleaning one of the hourly rooms. There are exactly 4 parking spots in the parking garage that are always taken so you have a very small chance of parking indoors off the street and there’s not much street parking at all except at fire hydrants and the entire street is truck loading only 7am to 7pm so you risk a ticket if you park on the street. The pillows are nasty and very well used to the point they have about half the filling of a regular pillow. There’s always a couple hairs in the linens and towels and hairs in the bathroom. The showers in many rooms don’t point towards the shower area and point towards the wall or at the floor so you ether soak the floor or have to shower with your skin pressed against the tile which is icky. Of course you get two small cheapest soap bars that exist and usually no wash cloth and never a floor towel. The tvs are mostly small 27 inch tvs and the remotes are worn and the channels in many of the rooms are like just a couple infomercial directv channels even tho other rooms have more channels like the tv hasn’t been scanned properly but you can’t do it with the remote provided. There is a booming night club in the basement that is audible in the building late at night and you can definitely hear your neighbors activities too. The cleaning ladies will come in your room to clean if you leave for the day without asking so don’t leave anything valueable in the room although I have left valueables in the room without any issues I still thought it was odd for the to clean the room without asking since it’s so low budget and made me feel uncomfortable it’s not like the place is spotlessly clean to begin with so not sure why they felt the need to replace the towels when I left. On the other hand the employees are pretty nice and friendly, there’s a really nice view of the skyline of downtown on the 5th floor facing the street side and a little view on the 4th floor too, it’s a block to the subway station, the neighborhood is fairly safe for Brooklyn, the other guests are decent enough for it being one of the cheapest motels in nyc on many nights, parking is free if you do happen to get a space and in a safe garage with a closing door although good luck getting out. Still there’s something weird about this place and I will not be coming back even though I’ve stayed there numerous times I don’t recommend it. For $50 you can get a much nicer room elsewhere without the low budget hourly hotel vibe. The poor quality linens and bedding and lack of actual cleanliness make this one a poor choice if you can afford a little bit...
Read moreUpon arrival, the room was completely filthy. There were little hairs all over the bed? Goodness knows what that was. A rusty looking stove and a disgusting bathroom. I thought that maybe they forgot to clean the place before arrival but the towels were folded and the bed was made. The television didn't work and it was still in plastic wrapping. The only outlets in the room where we could charge our phones were the ones directly above the stove top. Given this, an employee (possible manager) of the hotel had the audacity to come to our rooms and rudely insist that my group and I did not book the rooms we booked weeks in advance so we had to show him the email confirmation. There was some sort of mix up on their part so they’re not even organized. I thought that at least we wouldn’t be there for long but more trouble was ahead. Second day - after leaving and coming back to my room, the access key wasn’t working for both rooms my group and I booked. We went downstairs to tell them about the issue and they gave us another key. The one to my room still didn’t work. So I went downstairs again and they gave me yet another key and that still didn’t work. The guy at the front desk had to come upstairs and open the door for me with a brand new card. Third Day- This day we were finally checking out, thank goodness. However, when I went to get my charger out of the wall, it was stuck! Unfortunately while I was trying to pull and pull my charger out, my boyfriend (who traveled long distance to be here and we already don’t get to see each other often) had to leave because his ride was impatiently waiting. So, they robbed the last few moments I had with my bf away from me. I called the front desk and someone came to look at the issue. He couldn’t get it out but the only silver lining was that he was nice enough to give me a new base for my charger to go home with. So,...
