Okay, so I've been to the IKEA restaurant before, So I'm going to base this review on this visit This is the first time I've been to the IKEA restaurant for breakfast. Their breakfast decent, kind of cold rather plain but does the job and for the amount of food I got for roughly about $13 in Brooklyn. You can't really complain too much. I feel like everybody who works at this Ikea really hates their job. The lady who had the unfortunateness of being the dining cashier in the morning seems to hate her job more than anybody on earth. She's like the ultimate cafeteria lady. She don't have time for your friendly banter or to have learned customer service skills. She is there strictly for her paycheck. If New York City attitude was a person, they work at IKEA Brooklyn In the restaurant ringing people up for breakfast on Sunday morning. I kind of feel like everybody who works in this place. Just got stuck in the maze there and couldn't find their way out so they might as well have applied . I simply asked if they were still selling breakfast and she barks its all we're selling at the moment She was barking on me to get on the line as I was going to grab one of those things to put my tray on. Lord knows I am not carrying that across the expanse of this dining room. So after that warm &friendly greeting and then having to wait for the two people behind the service line to finish the conversation to be served I proceed to take my lukewarm food That was still warmer than the greeting I got from the cashier, to sit and eat near the windows so I have an unobstructed view of.. well Amazon. Apparently since the last time I had been here, IKEA had decided to remodel their dining area. Very nice. They put some very comfortable couches but that said... they put some very comfortable couches IN THE DINING AREA. So you're sitting all the way back away from the small table. Not really ideal for eating FOOD. I suppose I could have gotten up and moved to a table that sustained eating like a human a little better but the closest one was like a large family style tables I didn't want to be that jerk. .I don't see this lasting very long. I feel food is going to get in the couch and it's going to be hard for the staff to clean. And we all know how the Ikea people feel about working there. So you know... The cleaning is probably not going to get done properly. I also kind of feel like at some point all the tourists are going to come here and frankly well this is NYC and you know in the summer when people visit sometimes they bring stowaways with them. So you can possibly go to IKEA now and not only purchase a bed but also bring the bugs home with you to complete the NYC experience. Not at the moment but I can see it getting like sitting at the end of the subway car... Okay so now when I go to IKEA I can't sit near the window to eat and enjoy Amazon views. I'm kind of sad about this. This day I had an extra special view of the giant cruise ship that apparently was parked in the harbor that was blocking the rest of my view. It was pretty cool but I'll have to give that up to eat like a human. Ikea also apparently add a few of the biggest horse flies I've ever seen in my life( like I seriously didn't know flies got this big), it was a nice touch for the at home ambiance that Ikea was apparently going for. It's very nice that they're trying to upgrade their dining experience. Unfortunately they haven't figured out how to upgrade their food serving units to keep the food hot. Or hire people who can pretend they like their job. Although I don't mind their buffet style food service, I kind of think that perhaps they could give a little more option to their breakfast menu. I do enjoy their lunch menu but it's also slightly limited. (Their food counter on the 2nd floor, however never has any of the food. They always run out of everything every time I'm here. So if you're hungry at IKEA the restaurants your only option at times) All in all, if you are dining at IKEA's restaurant, may the odds be ever in your...
Read moreGot to IKEA before they opened (large crowd gathered outside). Headed straight upstairs to grab a quick breakfast bite before shopping. There was a long line of people with their trays, but the kitchen staff was inexplicably already completely overwhelmed!? It was almost as-if they didn't realize the store was about to open and hadn't prepped any food for all the hungry customers waiting outside. We literally stood there in amazement watching the kitchen employees frantically drop gobs of bacon into the deep fryer to quickly produce bacon for the customers. The bacon came out of the fryer in GIANT CLUMPS - - I've never seen bacon cooked this way. The eggs were like powdered space eggs / they had the consistency of funky spongy tofu (almost indescribable: artificially bright yellow, rubbery and completely flavorless). The "pancake" was literally as dry and crunchy as a cracker (I held it up and broke it like a cookie as my gf was chuckling in amazement). Also puzzling, the store has JUST OPENEND and we were probably the 7th/8th people to be served, but the coffee machine was already empty!? Like everything that could go wrong DID. And last but not least, as we were sitting and eating our mystery breakfast, they have these little push-carts for folks who couldn't carry their food trays - - they were THE LOUDEST SOUNDING CONTRAPTIONS I've ever heard. The wheels made these ungodly unpleasant squeaky sound and every five seconds someone was passing our table pushing one of those wobbly carts ruining our already challenging "dining" experience. The ONLY saving grace were the little potato cubes. They were crunchy and delightful with a little ketchup. But everything else was a complete disaster. Even the lingonberry sauce (that came out of a giant plastic bag *absolutely not fresh) was utterly flavorless. I've lived in NYC for over 30 years and have eaten at a lot of places. This was the single worst dining experience I've ever had (and the kitchen staff was so unmotivated it was sad - - you could literally tell they did not want to be there *almost like depressed forced prison laborers or something). AVOID THIS PLACE AT-ALL-COSTS!!! Finally - - shopping at this IKEA is anxiety inducing. So many people crowding into every display, screaming babies, people whistling and clearing their throats every few seconds. Pushy folks trying to push past you while you are trying to look at items. It was all-around unpleasant and I couldn't wait to leave this uncivilized...
Read more5 star for the food, 1 star for the cashier. The lady was on her phone the whole time. I understand this is not a full service restaurant but you don't have to be mean and rude only because I couldn't find a empty cup for the coffee. Since it's a self serve restaurant. When you order a cup of coffee. You need to grab a empty cup from the tray next to the cashier and get the coffee from one of the dispensers for yourself. There were layers of tray stack on top of each other. The top tray was empty so there was no cup in it. After I paid for my coffee. I asked the lady and told her there's no cup on the tray. She rolled her eyes and pointed the 3rd layer of the trays and said "what is this?, Can't you see?" Then went back to continue playing with her phone. There's no way I could see the cup hiding in those tray if you didn't tell me where to look for. I mean I know it's a miserable job but you don't have to give me an attitude just because I asked a simple question. I think they are supposed to take the empty tray out once there's no more cup on top. May be she's too busy on her phone and forgot she's actually working. Anyway, the coffee was quite good and do yourself a favor don't ask question unless you...
