ASTORIA LOCATION.
So this is my second time ordering from Jamrock Jerk. As a Trinidadian living in Astoria, there are barely any Trinidad or Jamaican restaurants in Astoria unless I go to the opposite side of Queens or Brooklyn, so when I see this food truck I try to order from them.
Food- The taste is just ok. The jerk was absolutely NOT spicy & was not seasoned too well, maybe they cater to the American customers. As Caribbean people, our food are filled with great taste, so I expected the same from a Caribbean restaurant, but was very disappointed. The rice was ok.
The portion amount is diabolical, especially the rice & peas, it looked like I ordered LETTUCE with chicken cut up in pieces and a small side of the rice & peas because the amount of rice & peas was at the quarter side of the box with the chicken on top on and the LETTUCE was literally in half the box container. But, he food was packed well. By the time I removed the tons of lettuce, ate 2 pieces of chicken and literally 3 spoons of rice, this is what was displayed (in 3rd of the uploaded photo)
This is absolutely a rip off and concerning for because for $17 the food portions should be more. These kind of prices should be based on great taste and good portions. This was worth a $8-$9 food to be honest. So many places are over charging for food that is not worth it.
Service- When I got there, no one attended to me, and just as the first time, I had to figure out where or how I should order. They would see you there and literally ignore you as if you should already know if you need to wait in line to verbally order or use the machine thingy that they have. So I just used the machine to order.
The older lady came over to ask what I'm getting while I was still using the machine so I told her. I guess at that time she only asked because they were close to closing. So I asked the younger girl what time they close, because was moving the things by the machine, she stated at 8pm, but she answered with much attitude Idk why.
Overall.. I will NOT...
Read moreAfter Jamaican Food Boss did his Youtube review on Jamrock Jerk last week ,I decided to take his word on it and try for myself.i ordered the main dish.Jerk, rice&peas, salad, plantain combo + side order of Jamaican Mac'n Cheese.im very disappointed.let me start with the jerk chicken, which is by the way supposed to be the "main attraction".the jerk chicken was dry, tasteless and bland.so much i had to use their included jerk sauce packet to bring the flavors back to life.the rice & peace is what you'd expect from traditional standards.the plantain nothing special there.and so is the salad.it appears everything is marketed as to give the combo a colorful and earthy esthetically pleasing look.the overal taste just didnt sit right with me.....and I hate to spill the beans on their Mac'n'cheese but if I dont tell you who else will ?....the Mac'n'Cheese was atrocious.theres nothing "Jamaican" about it.it was dry and soggy like it was cooked in a microwave.judging from the taste,I would assume it was not made from scratch and certainly dont have that cheesy and soft gooey texture.its one of those "gourmet" Mac'n'cheese in the box you will find at your local supermarket that comes with the dried herbs packet inside the box.come on JamRock really ? I wont ever be buying or recommend JamRock to anyone.sometimes the local street Jamaican Jerk chicken guys have way better tastier jerk chicken than the restaurant themselves.and most often their prices are reasonable and sometimes cheaper depends on where you go.Folks I hate to break it to you,but if you want real authentic jerk chicken, you gonna have to travel to the heart of Jamaica and enjoy it yourselves.Jamaica is the origin of all things jerk, and so there's no better place to go.the chicken will taste different, the herbs and spices are fresh and organic and nothing beats the exclusive pimento wood, the main ingredient to true jerk chicken.take care everyone.and be...
Read moreSome Jamaicans simple don’t understand the concept of good customer service. On 15SEP I went to the popup location downtown financial district by Water Street. Ordered 2 jerk chicken meals just to find out rice and peas was finish and they had enough only for one meal. I said ok and proceed to purchase just one meal. After checking out I noticed a pop up on the screen that I had now earned a free meal. The lady cashing out said absolutely nothing but I motioned to her the message and ask if I could claim the free meal with jerk chicken and Mac and cheese. I was debating on whether to take that or just vegetables with the jerk chicken. We agreed on Mac and cheese until the server came up to me saying jerk chicken was finish. I was disappointed but totally understood as it was close to end of day at 3:15PM. I asked if the free meal could be reinstated to which a lady claiming to be the owner/person in charge for the day said no but I should come back next week. Told her for certain she wouldn’t remember plus I wouldn’t be in office again at that time. I asked her to take a screenshot to which she mentioned she had other things to complete (suggesting it wasn’t important ) and having a slight attitude. I walked away and told her I’d write a review on my experience. Not even 2 mins later I received a phone call that Uber didn’t show up so they’ll give me the available food. I’m a big supporter so I told her I would come get it. But the attitude she gave putting the food in the bag and turning around without saying a word is more than enough for me to never support nor allow/advise my coworkers to continue supporting this business. Learn to treat your customers with respect. I wouldn’t have earned a free meal if I didn’t support as...
