Joe's of Avenue U — Restaurant in New York

We frequently go to this restaurant as we live in the neighborhood over 60 years. Recently, I ordered a meal for my husband an I . I ordered it thru Uber Eats. Upon delivery I found it was the completely wrong order. I called the restaurant they told me to take it up with Uber eats. ( nice response) . I asked them to prepare the order correctly and I will give the Uber driver additional money to come pick it up. I told Them the complete and thorough order 3x on the phone. I repeated it 3x !! We’ll guess what. The Uber driver went picked up the new order and I was missing everything except one thing!! When I called the restaurant back they said I didn’t tell them what was in the order and that they had no one to deliver it so if I had an issue I should contact Uber Eats.. nice response for a restaurant that I have been a loyal patron for over 40 years. I’m turned off badly and prob will never go there again!! May I add that the one thing they did send ( chicken cutlet parm plate) there was no bread etc. Do NOT order from this restaurant via Uber Eats and know your business doesn’t matter to them at all and it’s amazing when money is tight and less and less people are going out to eat that...

9/3/21.. The worst seafood pasta I have ever had in my entire life. The seafood was gross and old. The linguine had like a mushy texture I can't even explain it. The red sauce was barely any at all, it was a sprinkle of plain tomato sauce with no added flavor whatsoever. I had to put it down after my third bite as I felt the gagging coming on🤢 Whole dish went to the garbage, I just couldn't take another bite. As for the steak, I called the restaurant 1st and I asked if the steak they sold was a tender steak she replied "yes it was tender" .. LIES!!! The steak was tough and surprisingly very thin!! Never again Joe's, my 1st & last time. Very disappointed as I trusted some reviews. BIG MISTAKE!! There's regular pizzerias out there that do a wayyyy better job. I wanted to try something new since I always have Randazzo's, L&B's, Casa Bella on Cropsey etc which are great but Joes missed the mark and by far. This is a honest review. We came here craving Sicilian after watching the show “From Scratch.” We walked in, The ambiance felt very authentic, as in Jersey Shore Italian authentic. The menu looked legit.

Ordered the Panelle Special, the arancini special, and the chicken parm. It all tasted the same and very basic - nothing to write home about. They have a hot food buffet so they just warm it up in the microwave and your food is ready in minutes. Wasn’t impressed by the specials - they were lacking in flavor and underseasoned. Bland.

Then, we ordered the pasta with sardines. The pasta was good but the sardines were off - the flavor was anything but fishy - they almost tasted sweet? Something didn’t taste right - we tried to finish half but couldn’t.

Two stars because the price was fine and the service was good. However, an additional 4% fee is tacked on for using credit card? Not coming back — this is NYC and there are a million other better Italian restaurants...
