On December 15 around 10 pm, I visited this Mudville 9 Saloon. My friend and I were coming from Carnegie Hall, and we were looking for a chilled spot to chill. Upon arriving, we seated ourselves around the bar, after which I tried signalling the bartender to take our orders, this in itself was an interesting experience as I had to wait until she drank one of two shots during our visit, seemingly paid for by a customer. Fortunately, she saw me waving at her and decided to give my friend and I some attention. She came, not in a polite manner and was telling us that we had to order quickly if we want food. My friend and I understood this and hastily proceeded to order a serving of jerk wings, a glass of Margarita and Soda. My Margarita came first tasting like lime juice. I then tried to signal to the bartender to ask her if she could make me a margarita. However, I had to wait till she took her second shot that the said customer I am assuming must have paid far, she later came, Not in the best attitude, heard what I had to say and proceeded to make me another drink. After I tasted the second mixture, sticking to the first mixture was probably the smarter thing to do. That aside, the meal came shortly after. To my surprise again, not what I had ordered. On top of that, the fries were cold, and the taste of a piece of one wing that I tried was like chicken fried without seasoning in dirty oil. I then decided to ask for the bill without going any further. The bartender/waitress just said "ok" in a sarcastic tone and handed us the bill without even finding out the issue. After receiving the bill, I realized that the meal was on the bill. As we were about to pay, I did not feel satisfied with myself. There was another waitress who was walking past my friend and me, so I stopped her and asked her if she was the manager. She replied, "No I am not, is there an issue.." I proceeded to tell her that the fries were cold and the wings that were brought out wasn't what I ordered. To my surprise, she shook her head and said that I am trying to be mischievous. Then she placed the back of her hands over the plate of fries and said: "you are lying, this fries is not cold because I brought it out myself to the bartender." So I said to her that feeling and tasting could provoke different reactions. So what she's feeling with her hands was not what I was tasting. She then responded in an unpropitious manner and said "I see what you guys are trying to do here. We can take the food off the bill, and you only pay for your drinks - because you guys are trying to get free food and that is not right!" The way how my friend and I were shook, I never even knew how to respond to that. All I know is that we felt misjudged because we were unsatisfied with our experience. She then walked off, we got an updated bill, we paid, and then we left. In all my years of visiting this City and different eateries, I've never felt this mortified, ambushed or unworthy. Even more so over...
Read moreLet me start by saying I really tried to give this place a fair shot. But my experience? A hot mess from start to finish.
First time we go in -- just me and my sister- we have an hour to kill before our haunted house activity. So let's rock it right? We ordered a margarita, a water, and hot wings. After 37 minutes, the bartender comes back like, "Oh, I forgot to put in your order." Thirty-seven minutes of us sitting at the bar looking in our face, even had the audacity to set up plates in front of us. Obviously, now the time has gone by and we have to go. The manager *Jo she was nice about it, gave us a lemon drop shot, apologized, and told us to come back after our activity -- said she'd comp the wings. Cool. I appreciated that.
So we actually did come back later that night with the rest of my siblings. We ordered guac, honey hot wings, and drinks. The buffalo wings (which she comped) were honestly the best thing we had. Everything else? Mid. Definitely not worth the prices.
Then -- and this part annoyed me -- I asked for ranch with my wings, and they brought out some mystery white dip that turned out to be dill. I said, "This isn't ranch," and the server just said, "Oh, it's a dill dip," like that was no big deal. Um, what if I was allergic to pickles? People have actual allergies. Zero care or concern.
And then, because apparently this is their theme, I ordered another drink before closing out and waited another 25-30 minutes. The manager comes back (again) like, "I'm so sorry, your server forgot to put it in." She comped it, but at that point, I was just over it.
I even asked her, "Why do all your servers forget to put orders in? That's literally the job." She just kept apologizing.
Now, I hate to even go here, but it's hard to ignore: we were the only Black customers there -- and the only people of color at all, including staff. We were sat in the corner and basically forgotten. Twice. Make of that what you will, but it didn't sit right with me.
Bottom line: the wings were solid, but the service was careless, the food was meh, and the vibe was off. Overpriced and underwhelming. I left frustrated and disappointed -- and I'm definitely not coming back.

I came in with high expectations based on reviews, but the reality didn’t match at all.
I ordered the steak and fries: the skirt steak was over-seasoned to the point of masking the meat’s flavor, and the cooking was way off. I asked for medium rare, got something close to well done, with no sear/no Maillard reaction, the steak felt almost boiled.
The Caesar salad was just sad: plain lettuce with some parmesan, nothing more, for $19. That’s the same price as a pepperoni pizza or chicken sandwich, and $2 more than short rib sliders but felt like a bland side, not a real dish.
I’m not even upset about the prices, cuz I understand NYC is expensive, and I work in the industry but when the food lacks care, that’s where the real problem is.
What made things worse was the service. Our server checked on us literally 10 seconds after the food arrived, while I was still cutting the steak. The overall vibe felt like forced friendliness aimed at the tip, not genuine hospitality.
We politely shared our feedback with the manager, who barely reacted with a flat “I’ll let them know.” Then, when paying, both the server and manager were hovering around us to see how much we’d tip and we even overheard the manager whispering to the server about it as we walked out.
I did leave a tip out of respect for the kitchen staff, but overall, the experience was far from what it should have been.
A restaurant’s reputation is built not only on food, but on how customers feel when they walk...
