The one word I can think of for my experience was, "blindsided". We dined last night for my sister's birthday. We started off with The Calliope cocktail. The perfect refreshing drink with rum punch, ginger and not too sweet. Our appetizers of choice were the grilled oysters made with a beautifully zesty, spicy chilli garlic butter sauce and served with toasted bread for dipping. YUM! The other was a Red Snapper ceviche. Sadly, this was awful in my opinion. It was missing acidity and the snapper didn't taste fresh. We thought perhaps that was just a little hiccup, as the entire menu looked promising.
We were wrong. I decided on the Maple bourbon glazed duck breast served with sweet mashed potatoes and fermented cabbage. My sister ordered the Bouillabaisse with calamari, shrimp and beans in a lobster stock. Boy, were we wrong. For a cajun restaurant, I was speechless on the lack of flavor. My food arrived and I immediately noticed it had been sitting a while, the mashed sweet potato was hardened on the edge of the plate and to make it worse it was so bland. The glazed duck breast was nothing special, glazed lacked the sweet richnessI was looking for. The bouillabaisse had an off-putting taste. Just awful. She decided instead on the grilled Branzino on mashed sweet potato. Again, nothing special and lacked flavor. We also ordered a side of macaroni and cheese. Though it looked good, but again no flavor or cheese as it seemed.
So my question to management is, where exactly was the cajun? I was absolutely looking forward to my dining experience and really wanted to rave about this restaurant but, could not have predicted this disappointment.
On a lighter note, the place is gorgeous and outdoors is whimsical. Staff is amazing. Ariel, the host was delightful in helping to orchestrate my birthday cucpake surprise. Hopefully, I can at least return for cocktails and...
Read moreI originally tried to book a table at 1803 online & was unable to get the timeslot I wanted. After calling the restaurant, they were able to accommodate 2 of us at 6:30pm on a Friday evening. It was my husband's birthday, so we wanted a relaxing night. The venue is lovely, great decor, truly reminiscent of NOLA. They have a large outdoor space too & if I am not incorrect, there were heaters outside. High tables inside, were a little small to fit plates & glasses on comfortably. When the appetizers came, the food was excellent. Portions were a good size, and the flavors were wonderful. My only complaint was that we felt very rushed. The entrees were brought out before we had even finished our appetizers, in spite of my previous request that we had a break in between courses. The 2nd time an attempt to bring our entrees out, I complained to a bar staff member & we were swiftly spoken to by Anthony, the general manager, who proceeded to ensure completely fresh dishes were made for us and that we had a good break before the food came out. This allowed us to enjoy the live band that was playing, (6-9pm). The jazz music was great and played at a volume level that still allowed you to hear your own conversation. I had the jambalaya & my husband the steak frites. Both were really good & again, good portion sizes. I had to bag some of mine up! Anthony also ensured that the rest of our evening went without a hitch, so that we left happy. Overall, the atmosphere and vibe were great. I really appreciate when staff try to correct a customer complaint & at 1803, this was achieved without it seeming like a problem. At the end of the day, my husband had a great birthday & we left, knowing we will be back very soon. FYI, they do have a happy hour on drinks but reckon on spending $100 a head for 3...
Read moreDuring the summer, I finally got to visit one of the spot on my list, 1803 NYC. They offer New Orleans style food, like The outdoor seating was massive, and, it was covered, so no need to worry about the rain. Even though the outdoor seating looked nice, but the interior looked so beautiful!!! And, for that reason, we opted to eat inside instead of outdoor.
We ordered Watermelon Lychee Sangria and Fais Do-Do for boozy brunch. The Sangria was AWESOME! The flavor seeps out from the watermelon into the drink, and the drink got stronger as the time passed even with the melting ice cubes. Fais Do-Do was was very fruity, and elegantly sweet. Bigger glass than expected, which was great! We enjoyed this one a lot too.
They food menu looked super enticing, we wanted to order them all… We decided on Jambalaya and Cast Iron Cajun Frittata. Jambalaya tastes so good! It had perfect seasoning, loads of tender chicken, plump sausage and shrimp, a great dish! Frittata was loaded with plump crawfish and sausage, and packed with flavor. Every bite was a delight.
While dining, a jazz band came in and started to play music from the balcony up top. We were not expecting that, and it was so nice! Their music was mellow and soothing, not loud but just loud enough to hear every note. Perfect for a relaxing weekend brunch!
We had an amazing brunch here. The atmosphere, the music, the cocktails, and the food…everything was great! We would definitely go back for more and more. I can’t wait for my family to be able to come for a visit again, this will be the first place we...
