What Neptune does well it does very well, and what it does bad it does awful. The burgers are excellent, with thick diner style fries. The gyro platter is also fantastic, with a huge portion of gyro, fresh cucumber tomato salad with Kalamata olives, fries and a slab of feta cheese. Plus a warm pita and an excellent house made taziki sauce.
Unfortunately, aside from this they consistently crank out sub-par food at higher than average prices. There is no reason to come here when you can spend the same or even less at an actual restaurant that uses good fresh ingredients.
The breakfasts here are routinely a miss. Barely toasted toast, oily greasy low quality meats riddled with rock hard gristle and chewy fat, overcooked omelettes and eggs with undercooked whites no matter how you ask for them. Breakfast is the one thing every diner has to do well, and it’s very disappointing that Neptune just can’t get it right.
The Turkey Club is huge, but again the meat is awful. Imagine the discs of Turkey that come in Luncheables snack packs, but sheets of that. Super low quality gelatin-like Turkey, topped with bacon that’s mostly fatty parts with an unnaturally smoked flavoring.
At the prices Neptune charges it’s very difficult to recommend this place to anyone. You can spend the same amount anywhere else on Bell for quality food. I had the meatloaf platter here recently and it was pathetic.. brownish green bland “sautéd veggies”, mashed potatoes that were literally a boiled potato smashed on the plate with nothing else and dry generic meatloaf with what tasted like instant gravy. For less money you can have a massive, fresh and delicious meatloaf platter down the street at Maggie Mays in a wonderful setting.
For what it’s worth, I love diners. I’ve been to this one so many times now since it’s so close and have tried a variety of dishes. Breakfast a few times. Several dinners and lunches. The staff is friendly and attentive and that’s the best thing they have going really. Long gone are the days where a diner is a place to get a reasonably good meal at...
Read moreThe food is just okay. Definitely liked Jackson Hole better. Miss the jukeboxes on the tables. Our American Legion holds services twice a year (Veterans Day and Memorial Day) and we usually have lunch after at Bayside Diner but since they closed we figured Neptune would be good replacement even though wasn’t that happy with the food as it’s just mediocre. But we like to support our neighbors and naturally I thought of Neptune. Usually 10-15 people. Which is a nice size bill for the establishment twice a year and other times as my family would go as well because it was convenient (can never go wrong with a turkey club). Bayside diner and places before them had no problem being prepared for us and usually had tables together waiting. However, when speaking with the manager, Timmy, I got the impression that we were an inconvenience and he kept mentioning that they can’t reserve space for us and how it was Memorial Day and couldn’t guarantee that we wouldn’t have to wait. Now our group are mostly elderly and a couple of elderly war veterans and there is no where for 10-15 to wait around to be seated. I think it’s a shame that this local, neighborhood place would make us feel that way. But it’s okay we’ve found a new place that welcomed us with open arms and accommodated us with gratitude and appreciation and they are who will have our business from now on. Times are tough and businesses who have opportunity to make upwards of $500 a pop should really think twice about making people feel like they’re bothering you by trying to bring...
Read moreThis is our favorite diner. Whatever my wife and I order is always exceptional. I think today our dinner was beyond exceptional. We both had the stuffed filet of sole with crabmeat. You get two generous pieces. The crabmeat stuffing is moist and so delicious . Truthfully, it is better than any expensive seafood restaurant we have been to. The order comes with a basket of bread, a choice of soup or salad, choice of potato - mashed or baked (we had baked), and choice of vegetables. It was so much food, we took half of it home for tomorrow’s dinner. Also, our waiter, Billy, enhanced the whole dining experience. He is everything a waiter should be. He is friendly, nice, and truly wants to please you. I would recommend this diner to anyone. We have been coming here since it opened and some of our favorite dishes on the menu are: fish and chips (huge portion), bacon cheeseburger deluxe (their onion rings and bacon are the best), bagel and lox deluxe (their lox is the freshest I have ever had), chicken or pork souvlaki platter, and their Greek avgolemono soup is fantastic. Also, their breakfast omelettes are delicious, especially the feta cheese omelette with sweet potato fries. This place is really fantastic with a warm and welcoming staff. Chris, one of the managers, is so friendly and so welcoming. He adds to the dining experience by welcoming you when you come in. We love this diner and in our opinion it is the best...
