This Pho was a culinary crime scene, and I'm not even sure where to start. The broth tasted like it had been sitting in a dishwashing sink for a week, with a faint whiff of old Pho broth trying its best to hold on to its dignity. I mean, how do you mess up broth this bad? If I wanted to drink dishwater, I would've just skipped the whole restaurant experience and done it myself.
Now, let’s talk about the portion size. The broth had a volume so pitiful it might as well have been a garnish. And the meat? Three sad slices of thinly sliced beef that looked like they'd been taken from the back of some sad butcher's leftover drawer, paired with a couple of sad pieces of tripe as if they were thrown in there just to give the illusion of authenticity. A joke, really.
My wife has eaten here plenty, so I thought I was in for something decent, but this delivery? This was a betrayal. And for $18? You’re charging me for this trash? If you’re going to sell me garbage, at least make it the most delicious garbage you can. Don’t serve me this watered-down nonsense, as if you’ve got a personal vendetta against flavor.
Now, the cubed beef. Usually, it’s the saving grace, but not today. Apparently, someone thought it would be a good idea to coat it in cornstarch, resulting in a blob of gummy, flavorless meat that was tender, sure, but tasted like nothing. No beefy goodness. Just a mouthful of disappointment and regret.
By the time I managed to get through a few bites, I couldn’t even stomach it anymore. We had to bail on the Pho and order tacos instead, because there was no way I was going to digest that mess. Do better, or don’t do it at all. This place needs to take a long, hard look at what they're serving and...
Read moreWe came here 2 weeks ago (May 9) during grand opening with 20% discount, food was ok then - portion sized average but at least the VN spring rolls good. Sorry, servers told us that we cannot just anything listed in their menu, didn't have bread rolls to go with their beef stew, only rice. We returned today for a lunch, fully staffed but only half of this place occupied by paying customers. 2nd. disappointment about the classic VN pork chop "triple delight" on rice - chops were fine but the double delight didn't look nor tasted fresh. Waitrress asked & was told to inform us that they will NOT substitude hor fun noodles for steam rice or bread roll to go with the beef stew, WTH ... every other VN dining place has no problem & in fact offered it as a choice. Spring rolls is on the pricey side but fine, it clearly shrinken in size compared to 2 weeks ago and the summer roll is just horrible, not what it should be. The beef stew looked & tasted acceptable but nothing authentic about how it was presented - with red carrots only ?? - more than HK or Cantonese style everywhere else. One of the worst ripoff is to serve so-called Vietname coffee on ice with a weak cup of unknown coffee, could even be instant, definitely not the popular/common express grounded beans used by every other VN restaurant everywhere else. You've been WARNED here - not a chance we are coming back, 2 strikes for us and this is OFF our list, back to Flushing Pho again the next time. This place is nowhere near authentic and apparently the servers know & that the owner/management had been getting complaints and feedback - go elsewhere & no need...
Read moreI am going to be straight; if you are craving for pho and some ca phe without the frills, this is the spot to go to.
Located packed tight on the stretch of street filled with all sort of food (a foodies dream come true!), this spot is there to answer your call when you just want some good pho.
Now, I’ll be frank, it’s not going to give you the “WOW” or “OMG” factor but it definitely serves its job; that is a hearty bowl of nice light soup packed with flavors and vermicelli noodle.
I am a regular here; my go to are usually the grilled pork chop with pho and a ca phe.
Atmosphere-wise; it’s laid back and comfortable; perfect for if you want to grab a quick meal with a small group or enjoy solo.
Portion-size? Worth it! They always give you 2 slabs of grilled chop and the bowl of pho is not small; you can technically feed two with one order unless you are a big eater.
Now the ca phe also is made from that one brand people recognize ( you know, the taxi-yellow tin can with reddish-brown lettering, IYKYK)
Service is great, you come in, sit, order, they check once on you to make sure you’re all well..and then you pay when ready to go.
Pho Grand, to my knowledge, have expanded somewhat into a local franchise as there is more than 2-3 locations ; generally operated by Chinese staffs.
While yes, there are other options out there if you are specifically craving; the fact that the portion is good, price is great, and it hits the spot are the main reason why I keep...
