One of the greatest joys in life is meeting people and discovering just how much we truly have in common with one another. I had always known about New York Common Pantry, but it wasn’t until I found myself in a moment of need that I came to truly understand the depth of the services they provide. My visit to this facility was nothing short of divine—an experience that felt orchestrated by God Himself. From the moment I walked through the doors, I felt a profound sense of belonging. It felt like home, and I knew I had found my people.
I want to extend my deepest gratitude and admiration to Crystal Griggs. From the very first moment, I recognized so much of myself in her. Her remarkable work ethic, her compassion, and her ability to connect with others in the most genuine way make her someone you would want by your side—as a colleague, a friend, a sister, a mentor, or simply as a trusted human being.
Crystal embodies the kind of trust, integrity, and kindness that makes the world a better place. It brings me so much joy to see her doing work that not only fulfills her own heart but also touches and uplifts the hearts of countless others.
I also have to recognize my new brother, Shawn Smith. From the very moment we met, there was an undeniable connection—an instant recognition that we shared something special. His smile lights up a room, and his heart radiates warmth and love that remind me of the beauty and goodness of God’s creation.
In a world where it is often too easy to become jaded by hardship or past experiences, Shawn is a living reminder of the power of genuine human connection. He truly is someone you would want in your corner for every season of life.
What makes this even more extraordinary is the bond that Crystal and Shawn have shared for over a decade. Their commitment to each other, to the community, and to the mission of New York Common Pantry is truly inspiring. They are not just colleagues—they are family, and they extend that sense of family to everyone they encounter.
New York Common Pantry is more than just a place, it's home for a lot of us. It is a community where people can come as they are and find acceptance, love, and support. I am beyond grateful to be part of this family, and I am filled with excitement for the work and the journey ahead.
Crystal and Shawwn—thank you, thank you, thank you. You are extraordinary, and I am so blessed to know you both. This new season is just beginning, and I cannot wait to see all that we will accomplish...
Read moreI have to say it's an A'Ok place. First i have to say the place of business is clean. I mean you would think it's not up to it's par it is. That's a plus. What you see inside due it's circumstances well that's another story, I'm not hear to judge. When you first apply for the pantry is not much of a wait just make sure you bring your necessary papers so you can get your stuff. Now, as far as the the customer service, i went twice because my first visit i was unprepared however while my wait there are two ladies, a spanish young girl and a Korean girl. The Spanish girl has an attitude and doesn't look like she wants to help you. If your next and she sees who next and she doesn't want to help you she would take a 5 min brake or won't call you and stay at her desk. Reason i say this, twice i went she seen me and she did not take care of me when i was next after she was done with the person she had at her desk. She literally looked at me with her mean face and ignored me. I think she just felt intimidated by me or felt some type of way. But i was glad she didn't help me because the korean girl is a pleasure to be helped by. She is very sweet. The food is ok, i mean they can give you better vegetables or fruits. Not like they got it from the dumpster. They give you clear bags so everyone can see what you have. Change the bags. It's enough our pride being there has already dropped to a minimum. Clear bags is making it worst. So overall, The wait is awesome very fast, place is clean, customer service is ok, just go to the korean girl. There is a Shower for those who need to bathe in case you don't have a place to bathe. Laundry facility as well. Which is great !! Times are hard. If your in need of food and find yourself on a tight budget go to the common pantry. They will make it happen. Be Safe!...
Read moreI am writing this review to express my deep disappointment with the treatment I received at your office on Friday, August 9th. I understand the importance of having proper identification for various transactions, including purchasing alcohol, cigarettes, and accessing government buildings. However, the experience I had was both disheartening and frustrating. When you practically demanded my i.d
On that day, I was already exhausted from lack of sleep, the heat, and not having eaten since early Thursday morning. Despite these challenges, I walked a mile and a half to your office seeking assistance. Unfortunately, I was turned away because I did not have my ID card with me. I was informed that I needed it to receive assistance.
While I do have an ID and would have returned with it first thing Monday morning, August 12th, I was in immediate need of help. It was impossible for me to travel all the way to the Bronx to retrieve my wallet before your office closed. Was a brown bag lunch or a few cans of soup anything to hold me over until Monday, too much to ask for?
As an organization that prides itself on serving the most vulnerable members of out community, I believe it is crucial to show compassion and flexibility in situations like mine. Your refusal to provide even the most basic assistance has left me feeling hopeless, abandoned and disheartened.
I hope you will consider this feedback and take steps to ensure that others in need do not face the same treatment in the future.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely, Your...
