Northside Bakery is one of those local gems that doesnât shout for attentionâit just quietly does everything right. Tucked away in Glendale, it offers a warm, old-world feel with an impressive spread of freshly baked Eastern European breads, pastries, and prepared foods.
The bread here is the real dealâcrusty, flavorful, and made the traditional way. Whether youâre grabbing a sliced sourdough, a dense pumpernickel, or something a bit more indulgent like a loaf of sweet babka, youâre getting something that tastes homemadeâin the best sense of the word. Their cream horns and bread pudding also deserve a shoutout: rich, satisfying, and full of flavor without being overly sweet.
Staff is generally friendly and efficient, and if youâre lucky enough to snag one of their Too Good To Go bags, youâll be shocked at how generous they are. People walk out with bags stuffed full of bread, pastries, pierogi, cookies, and moreâat a value thatâs hard to beat anywhere else.
The shop is small but clean and well-organized. Thereâs not much in the way of seating, so itâs more of a grab-and-go spot than a cafĂ© hangoutâbut thatâs part of its charm. The vibe here is less âtrendy bakeryâ and more âlocal institution thatâs been feeding the neighborhood for decades.â
A couple of things to note: it can get busy during peak hours, and if youâre after something specific, it pays to come early. Service is usually friendly, though occasionally you might have to wait a moment before being helped. No big dealâgood bread takes patience.
Overall, Northside Bakery is a dependable spot with a strong sense of tradition and an honest approach to food. Itâs not flashyâbut it doesnât need to be. Just good, solid baking that keeps you...
Read moreI would just like to share a feel good story as we are living in some pretty turbulent times & itâs the small acts of kindness in such that I experienced today that humbles me and puts a smile on my face from ear to ear. So I will start off by saying I am obsessed with Northside Bakery. As someone who immigrated here from Poland, when I crave authentic food, soups and home baked breads & goods, this is THE PLACE! If you havenât visited this neighborhood gem, youâre missing out. Yesterday I went to pick up the raspberry cloud cake as it is literally the greatest dessert Iâve ever had, my friends and family agree. I messaged the owner today inquiring if they have anymore left as my FIL is celebrating his birthday tomorrow & he said he only wants that cake lol and the owners went above and beyond dropping it off at my door on their way home đđ„° they are also constantly active and involved in supporting the community. I will forever support this business! Thank you from the bottom...
Read moreIt was my first time there and I guess since I wasnât polish I was annoying to the girls serving customers. I am not familiar with polish food and desserts and I was asking questions and I saw the 2 girls serving, rolling their eyes at each other after I asked about the food. I asked what were some of the foods and pastries there and I was answered in a tone like I should have known. I wasnât offered a bag or utensils for my food purchases but other customers were asked if they wanted a bag and utensils and napkins. That confirmed my suspicions. I was treated differently maybe because I wasnât polish? It was my first time going there and my last. The food wasnât so great in my opinion anyway. Iâll spend my money where I am treated with respect and those girls need to learn good customer...
