As massive fans of Puerto Plata Seafood's other locations, my wife and I were excited to celebrate our 16th anniversary at their newest establishment. I even called on January 7th to make a reservation for February 13th (the day before Valentine's Day), and while I initially thought I had a 7 pm reservation, subsequent calls to verify revealed that no reservation had ever been made. This was concerning, especially given the restaurant's reputation and the busy pre-Valentine's Day period. Surprisingly, upon arrival, the restaurant was nearly empty – only two other tables were occupied. While the lack of a reservation was a stressful start, we were still hopeful the food would live up to the Puerto Plata name. Unfortunately, that hope quickly faded. Our server, despite my attempts to communicate in both English and Spanish, seemed to struggle with our order. Ordering drinks became a frustrating ordeal. My simple request for a Pepsi was met with confusion until I practically shouted "Coca Cola!" My attempt to order a passion fruit margarita (margarita con maracuya/chinola) was equally challenging. When the drinks finally arrived, my margarita was not only frozen (not what I ordered) but also incredibly sour, likely due to bad lime juice. Reluctant to cause a scene, I didn't send it back. The food, sadly, was just as disappointing. The calamari, while a generous portion, was significantly overcooked and rubbery. The tostones, which should have been crisp, were also rubbery and chewy, though the guacamole was a definite highlight. After our food arrived, our server seemed to disappear. She spent the rest of the evening at the bar, leaving us completely unattended. I tried to get her attention for extra sauce to combat the overcooked calamari, but was unsuccessful. We had intended to stay for entrees, but the combination of the poor service and subpar food was too much. This was our 16th-anniversary dinner, and the experience fell far short of expectations. To add insult to injury, we were automatically charged a gratuity on our bill, despite the exceptionally poor service. This felt particularly inappropriate given the lack of attention and the numerous issues we encountered. I understand that the restaurant is new, but the issues we encountered – from the reservation mix-up to the inattentive service, overcooked food, and automatic gratuity – need to be addressed. I hope this feedback is helpful, as I truly want to see this location succeed, given our positive experiences with other Puerto Plata Seafood restaurants. We may return in the future, but this first impression was deeply...
Read moreWas invited to an event here, went with my family, worst experience ever!🤦🏽♀️ excuse my French, but the service sucks! The man that worked there took FOREVER to give us our meal. Plus, we ask for cold water, and instead received warm water….if we were to ask for ice, he will take like (30 mins)to bring ice…it’s a bit of a dragged but is just to show u how slow he was. I got my children French fries, my daughter asked for ketchup, he took once again forever to bring it, she had to eat her fries like that!🤦🏽♀️ then he brought the ketchup! Plus, the portion they give is sooooooo small. Don’t go there if you’re really hungry because you are going to leave hungry again! Now don’t get me wrong, the place is beautiful, but the service sucks! I like when the waiter/waitress comes here n there to check up to see if we needed something etc….well they did the opposite, at one point my son had to get up and get what we needed🤦🏽♀️ and don’t get me started with the rotisserie chicken…that’s the only thing my daughter eats, we asked for that and they said they don’t have? How r u a Dominican restaurant n don’t have rotisserie chicken???🤷🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️ n it can’t be you ran out of because we went there like at 2pm! Plus the place was empty! Any other event, def going...
Read moreI dined here today for my partner's birthday and let me tell you all - absolutely excellent! 10's across the board. My frozen passion fruit drink was perfect - not too sweet & i can tell it's made with real passion fruit pulp. We started with the fried calamari - again, excellent. I'm a big fried calamari fan but surprisingly, a lot of places don't get it right. Either the calamari is cut too large or not fried enough.. not here! And I'm speaking as a 7 month pregnant woman with very particular taste buds. Our entrees came quick and HOT! Hubby had the grilled chicken breast & the Mac n cheese entree. While he can't eat too much due to a recent weight loss surgery, he really enjoyed his food and said that he would definitely be returning! I had the churrasco skirt steak with mashed potatoes - cooked to perfection! Not overseasoned or over cooked. Absolute perfection. Overall my experience here was wonderful and it was money well spent! I'm so glad to finally have a great restaurant so close to home. We will certainly be...
