Not everyone's idea of home cooking is the same. Nobody in my family would serve those stem-filled greens to even their worst enemy. And they were sweet. Who keeps putting sugar in their greens?!? This is the second BBQ place I've been to that's done this and it's awful. Stop it!
The ribs were meaty and plentiful. I got them to go and was eating them in my vehicle during lunch so I didn't get the extra sauce. It would have been better with it. They were still tasty without, but I always find that beef ribs need a little bit more sauce. The sauce isn't spicy or overly sweet. It's fairly middle of the road sauce. Pork ribs used to be on the menu. I wish they were still there.
The baked mac and cheese was adequate. It wasn't nearly cheesy enough but it was closer to traditional than most.
The collard greens.... I don't know what geographic location in the South serves them with sugar and no spice, my family is from central Georgia, but I'm going to make sure I stay out of those places. And the stems. It was 50% stems! Big ol' hard stems. Dinosaur BBQ has had the best greens I've had outside of homemade. These just don't cut it on any level.
The apple cobbler was sold out, so I got the peach. I liked it. It wasn't too sweet or too tart. Pretty good.
The portions were large and the price was a good value, but they really need to do a much better job on those sides. The...
Read moreDo NOT order catering from this place. After putting in an order almost a week ago for almost $2000 worth of food, it was not ready at the pickup time. There are hundreds of people waiting for their food and an hour and a half after the food was supposed to ready, I'm still waiting with no explanation on what's taking so long. It will be a very lonnngggf time before I step foot back in here. If you need something on time, don't bother coming here.
Update: I got part of my order after waiting an hour and 45 minutes. I left and came back 30 minutes later to pick up the rest. Timing is one thing , quality is something completely different. I ordered multiple items and was EXTREMELY disappointed. First, the stuffing was not cooked at all it was wet soggy bread or breadcrumbs. The turkey wings were TOUGH and should of cooked longer. The cabbage was mixed with collards and they were gritty. I have never in my entire life had a worse catering experience. I do multiple catering events every single year and I will NEVER give Rib Shack my business again. I like to buy black whenever possible and circulate money within the community to other black businesses but they are officially off the list. I was fully prepared to remove my earlier review about the lateness and post something positive but the quality of the food was just...
Read moreAlthough I work in Jamaica, Queens it’s nice to know a soul food spot that will deliver. I delivered twice and both times it’s was timely and all was received. I ordered the smothered chicken (good), collard greens (ok) and Mac& cheese. Second time I ordered the beef ribs (a bit too fatty but good taste) & again Mac & cheese (seriously need to add more cheese. Cheese need to be cheese throughout) and green beans (basic). Desserts: The first time I ordered apple cobbler & a year ago I ordered the peach cobbler. Both times they have a sorry crust as the cobbler portion. It’s hard and tasteless. To me outside of a good taste the bread portion is the second most important. Needs work. The second time I ordered the banana pudding. Literally it was a container of pudding (had a good taste) with cookies only on the top and saw 1 piece of banana & few tiny pieces of bananas. Possibly cookies at the very bottom but was so dissolved you couldn’t taste or see it. To me, Nilla Wafers matter! I ended up buying Nilla Wafers and a small banana. Went home and used their pudding to make a whole small banana pudding (the right way). Will order again because I enjoy supporting black businesses and try different meals (hopeful) but exhausted the desserts option.. so over...
