Update 6/2022: What a disappointment 😞. Burger was not to the specified temp and with the wrong cheese. Service was just soso. Used to be great now average. Nice outdoor space in the back though.

The Royale is one of those nice neighborhood places that is so cool you tend to forget how cool it is until you make it back after a long time. Wanting just a good burger and drinks in the hood, we rediscovered the Royale, having first come here over ten years, and three East Village apartments ago. Always a cool place, it never seemed to rise to the top of destinations in our EV carousing. But last night was so much fun in such as causal way, there were not too many folks there, so the place was quiet, and we went early enough so that they hadn’t turned the lights down yet (Good God, I sound like an old man. When did that happen?). Ambiance gets a five out of five. Bartender guy and bus staff were super nice and friendly, attentive, and moved with a sense of alacrity which always welcome and rewarded. Service also gets a five out of five. Now onto that burger. I got a no-nonsense Royale with gruyere, the patty was thick, juicy and cooked to my medium-well specifications. Just enough lettuce, tomato, and onion to compliment the taste of the meat, and with a bun that provided the perfect bread to meat ratio. To this I can attest: That is a tasty burger. Fries were great, but there was so much breading on the fried union rings that just eating one, was super heavy.
