This place is tiny even for pizza shop standards. Blink and you'll miss it. I know firsthand, as the first time I tried to visit I couldn't find it because I did write down an exact address--which has happened only 1 other time. I finally found myself back in the area, so I made it a point to stop here. There are 2 tables to sit at in the back, only 2 doors on the very short oven (one of which is blocked by the counter), the mom and son owners behind the counter talking in Greek, a piece of pizza-art on the wall in the form of a slice made of tarp, and a little room in front of the counter to order. The result was good but nothing more. The crust was decent but didn't much depth or flavor to it; it had crispness on the outer rim, but not underneath. I should've asked for it well done. The cheese was very creamy as it was whole milk processed mozzarella. The sauce was good but the slice was skewed more towards the cheese. My facist pizza ratings aside, this was a good slice of pizza. Similar to Louie & Ernie's in Pelham Bay, this is a good Bronx neighborhood joint that while noteworthy, doesn't quite measure up in a "best pizza in NYC debate", but could be worth a mention for "best in the bronx". I will give this another shot when I come back to the area for Jewish delis (Loeser's & Liebman's), but until then my...
Read moreI just left Sam’s in tears. This was my family’s pizza spot growing up - we ordered it for every birthday party and event, and always came here to eat. I have never in my life been treated by a restaurant owner the way Anesti treated me tonight. I ordered two slices to stay, didn’t hear him when he called me even though I was sitting right next to the counter. Over 5 minutes go by so I checked if they were ready, and saw a box with two slices in it. I asked if they were mine and he practically yelled at me saying that he called me “a long time ago” and acted like it was an inconvenience. Uh, sir - I ordered two slices and you clearly had no problem giving my money order to someone else, when you knew it was mine. Did you think I disappeared or something? Then, after my meal I wanted to talk to him and all he tells me is to throw out the stuff on my tray, as if I was supposed to know that. I am never, ever coming here again, and am telling all my friends and family in the area to avoid coming back here. They were coming here before I was even born, so you’ve just lost dozens of customers. Sam was WAY better and nicer, and so was his product. I’ve...
Read moreSam’s pizza used to be sooo good. The best around but they have become as bad as the others in the area. At Sam’s they barely add sauce, the sauce has no flavor, and the cheese is extra greasy now. I called for a pie with regular cheese on one side and no cheese on the other. I only asked for the sauce and mushrooms on the other half and only a little cheese on top of the mushrooms so they won’t fall off. The entire pizza had cheese and they made a large pie which I didn’t ask for. I paid $29 for a large pie with soggy, stale, overdone pizza crust and no flavor whatsoever and it barely had sauce. I live far and my daughter picked it up for me so of course we could not take it back. Had I been there I would not have paid for it and left it there. That’s being sneaky and thieving. This is the third time that something goes wrong and the pizza is horrible. This is the last time we all go there. We work close by in a school and honestly the pizza is not what it used to be so we don’t order anymore. I gave it one last try but still it was a confirmed...
