A Taste of Germany in Brooklyn It's almost October and you know what that means and no, not Pumpkin Spice anythings. It's Oktoberfest and sadly, for those of us not in Germany, there isn't much fanfare, but do not despair, for there are options. Like this wonderful little German eatery right here in Bay Ridge Brooklyn. The interior has wood lined walls and gives off the feel of a German Tavern. I started off with a nice big stein of Reissdorf Kolsch, which according to the menu; is a light crispy lager from Cologne and it was refreshing and delicious. For an appetizer, I had Nurnberger Bratwurst, which was perfectly charcoal grilled and served on top of warm German potato salad. The 2 sausages were snappy, crispy where charred, and had a delicious smokey flavor. Highly recommended. For an entree, I had the Eins Zwei Drei Schnitzel and the dish is exactly like its name: 3 types of schnitzel. There is a pork cutlet served with Jaeger mushroom gravy. This one was my favorite, the schnitzel was crispy and the gravy provided additional mushroom flavor and moisture, absolutely delightful. The veal cutlet served with lemon was great in it own right. The schnitzel was again perfectly crispy. The veal was the most tender of the 3 schnitzels and the lemon provided a nice flavor contrast. And the last one was the chicken cutlet with black truffle butter. You can really taste the black truffle in the butter. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of chicken cutlets cause they tend to be dry. The butter helped alleviate that dryness and the truffle butter provided great flavoring. The spaetzel was fine, I'm not a fan of plain spaetzel. My friend had the Schäfer-Auflaf or German shepherd's pie. He enjoyed the mash potato topping and the various types of German wursts used in lieu of ground lamb. He however did not like the capers that was in the pie. He literally picked all of them out. So if you're in the mood for German food, want to partake in the spirit of Oktoberfest or even just a night of Bingo (they have bingo nights). I highly recommend this location.

Where to begin with this place? So many things were just awful. Let's start with the food had a bowl of spicy goulash the beef in it was tough and just plain bad for a stew it should really soften that meat up but nope you'd be surprised, I ate about 5% of it. The saurbraten was inedible meat was horrible dry flavorless despite the sweet and sour sauce with seemed watered down. I politely expressed to the server that I don"t really like my dish and, would really like to send it back perhaps order something else in its place. from what I assume she goes to ask a "manager" . After a very akward silence and some choice whispering coming from the bar she returns and tells me nope there is nothing she can do. she says to my surprise "I can't take it back I can't reserve it" After a very troubling thought that they would evan try to reserve it. I look around and realize Evan if they did try to reserve it there would be no one to reserve it to. it was empty on a Saturday night with good reason. "Manager" "owner" made no effort to inquire about why I did not like the dish instead forced it on to the check with no alternative or accommodation, just a like it or not don't care. Gave two stars because I did have a wurst sampler as well and it was actually edible, and the beer selection was varied. I have been a culinary professional for nearly twenty years, and would like to offer a word of advice to this business, customers keep your doors open, unsatisfied ones keep them closed. please remind management and kitchen staff to have integrity in what they serve. I will not be returning to the haus and will detour all my friends and family alike. as a sidenote it's 2016 accepting credit cards wouldn't be a bad thing either of course it's your choice. Back to the food for dessert I had the German chocolate cake. In my best words it tasted like when you leave something way to long in the fridge and it takes the taste of the refrigerator, that about sums up the flavor on this one old and dried out. I really wanted to like this place but they failed on so many levels, I have dedicated a tremendous amount of time and passion to the service industry and culinary arts that it's sad and disappointing when a restaurant puts shame to a country's food by serving sub par dishes with no willingness to try to resolve or engage its guests. Ohhhh I almost forgot bread was for sure old it was rubbery and stale a warm up would of truly helped it out so much. In no way does this reflect our servers performance she does what she is told by management and preforms her job to the best of her ability to which I...

I have been a regular here for the past year, always getting takeout and dining in. When I lived nearby I would order takeout almost everyday. I’ve tried other items on their menu but my favourite one of all was their chicken wings. I would recommend this restaurant to my friends and take them with me, but we would get some other items on the menu as well. However, today, my friend was craving wings and I talked her up about my fav wings and took her here. This time, we only ordered wings. The face of the blonde lady who served us turned sour. She told us that it was a bar menu item so we should sit at the bar next time. We were directed to the seat by her colleague so I was confused and asked her that I would always sit at the seating area before and wanted to know if it has changed. Her response was that she would rather seat customers that are paying more than just chicken wings. I was speechless.. She could’ve just easily explained that we are only ordering bar menu items and directed us to the bar area (The wings were recommended to me by a friend so I did not know that I had to sit by the bar for this). I felt so speechless, embarrassed, and apologetic to my friend. As we found out that they are only accepting cash we stood up to withdraw cash nearby. We left without telling the staff as they looked busy (we had to even make eye contact with them a couple times to order). Upon our return, we saw that our table was given to other customers. I felt so sorry to my friend and I lost face. I guess we should’ve told the staff that we were leaving to withdraw cash, but I felt that they could’ve asked too. Now they gave our seat to other people, and not to mention that the lady said that she would rather serve other customers that are paying more? If that is the case, I’m sorry we have a small appetite. You just lost a regular customer. Horrible service but wants tips - I...
