I've frequently ordered delivery from Bay Ridge Sushi over the last 5 years and found the sushi delicious and always fresh. In the last few weeks I've finally been able to come here for a sit-down meal with family as I have grown to dislike the sushi places in my own neighborhood further away.
When sushi was taking off on the East coast around 25 years ago, a lot of new sushi places opened their doors and had great sushi, but over the last quarter century, most have turned to cheaper ingredients, less quality, and tinier pieces. Bay Ridge Sushi is one of the only restaurants in the south of Brooklyn that reminds me of what sushi used to be like 25 years ago in this city - fresh, delicious, and a true joy to eat. Even the rice they use for their rolls or sushi is cooked properly, and seasoned correctly.
Other sushi places have let their quality slip while increasing their prices, even pre-pandemic. Bay Ridge sushi prices are reasonable, and somewhat cheaper than the previous Southern Brooklyn mecca's of sushi in neighborhoods such as Sheepshead Bay and Midwood.
The location itself is on the smaller side, and could probably only fit about 10 parties or so, but I think this contributes to the atmosphere. It's a lot quieter and more peaceful than the larger sushi places in the borough that I am familiar with, that have increased their dining rooms to allow 20+ groups of people, if not more. This leads me to my final point, the service here is top notch, with a very attentive wait staff, and management in the dining room making sure patrons are being taken care of.
I do not write reviews often, or very long ones like these either, but I've been meaning to review this place for a while just because they have blown me away multiple times with their excellent food, quality service, and great atmosphere. Kudos to the team at this location, as I will be coming back again.
Favorite items: Eel Avacado Rolls, any unagi dish here is great really. Salmon Teriyaki, Toro, and my favorite roll here which is something I have never found made correctly in any sushi location - a Philadelphia roll. Every other location uses heavy cream cheese and very smoked salmon, while Bay Ridge Sushi somehow found a very light cream cheese and mildly smoked salmon that have a great mix of texture and flavors. I know this is a roll that is not for everyone, and I can't stand it anywhere but this place. But it is...

Adding to my initial review since the owner assumes I want the tip back.
We spent around $200 at our visit to Bay Ridge Sushi, we didn't come for a cheap meal or an all-you-can-eat buffet. During that time, we were made to feel rushed throughout our stay. One of our soup bowls spilled, and someone in our party cleaned the table. We were not asked if we wanted to replace the spilled soup, which we would be happy to pay for by the way, we don't want it for free. We asked for another one ourselves and paid for it without issue.
Then, after we ordered two more rolls to our original meal, we were asked (as we were sitting and clearly not going anywhere) if we wanted it "to go", not to stay. In my opinion, this made us feel rushed. The restaurant was not full and had empty tables. It was not closing time. After this treatment, we paid the amount in full AT the register and nobody said anything about any missing additional funds on the bill and everything was OK until it was time to leave and we were getting up.
Two ladies / waitresses came over to us and said "You didn't leave tip". This did not seem like an optional request to us. We said that the reason why we didn't leave a tip is because of the bad service. But they just stood there. Nobody mentioned any tipping policy or in-bill tip as is now being mentioned. So, we paid the tip because at this point, it was ridiculous to try and argue and we just wanted to leave.
The reason why your response seems incorrect is because another patron left a similar comment about your establishment saying that a waitress asked about the tip, and the service was rushed. If you made a new tipping policy, let us know beforehand or AS we are paying in full for our meal, not after we paid and are getting ready to leave.
In all cases, no thank you, we do NOT want any refunds to our tip, or for anything at all, and we never asked for one. We are stating our opinion and highlighting our experience and what happened and the way we were asked for the tip as we were leaving did not seem like it...
Read moreWe were used to coming here every month for all you can eat sushi and always enjoyed our experience with food and staff. Last time we went there for our anniversary it was all new staff. My girlfriend started a new diet and she couldn't eat rice. We inquired about sashimi all you can eat option upon arrival. The tall waitress girl (don't know her name since didn't introduce herself) right away responded with a "no". We asked her to check with cheff, which she unwillingly did and said it would be $50 for sashimi (regular sushi option is $22) to which we agreed, but which is I still think overpriced. Waitress wouldn't even look at us while taking an order for soup/salad and drinks. Upon bringing the order she knocked the tea cup over which almost spilled on my girlfriend and made a big mess under the table. She didn't apologize and threw a napkin under the table to cover up the mess. We were sitting in that mess for 10 minutes until I finally approached her and asked her if she could mop up the spill. She rolled her eyes but came back and cleaned up the mess. While we were eating our "all you can eat" my girlfriend offered me a piece of her sashimi to taste. The waitress saw it and when she brought a check $6 was added to our $72 plus tax bill. I inquired about an extra charge to which she replied "you can't share your food", remember we both ordered all you can eat (plus extra $28 for sashimi option). I told her it didn't make sense, she returned with another check with $2 added instead of $6. I asked another girl at the register about the extra charge to which she blamed it on a cheff and when I asked to speak with the manager she said she can remove the charge but "it will be on your consciousness".
