We hosted my Sister's 39th Birthday Celebration at Sugar'd last night, The seating and table layout was decent and probably the only thing that stood out. Let's start off by saying we had a Party of 6 which normally isn't too taxing on a wait staff, I say that to say we were sitting at the table for over 30 mins before we were greeted by our Server and offered Menus!!! We had to request our own water which came in plastic take out cups with lids!! Hygienic Yes!! But very ironic to the table set up, but hey I was glad to get water because the temperature in the restaurant was ridiculously hot and muggy, No A/C. They did have the front door open which is safe to assume for air circulation but sheesh it was hot. We ordered drinks with our server as he took our dinner orders, do you know we waited well over 2hrs for our drinks?!?! When we asked the server about the drinks and timetables he basically blamed it on bar and offered shots/soda because those options he could have maneuvered himself moreso get the bartender(s) to serve up faster. We didn't push the issue too much because overall we all were trying to stay in good spirits and make the best of my Sister's Birthday Dinner celebration. The server did give the Birthday Girl a Tequila shot which was nice, We in turn ordered 5 more which I later learned was ridiculously priced for the quality of the Tequila but Ok. Dinner was Okay. When the drinks finally came out it was with Dinner and they were WEAK! We were already over it at this point and the only reason why I'm able to mention the drinks that we definitely attempted to cancel was the fact that the server said due to the wait we won't be billed for them BECAUSE......SMH Now it's time for the cake, they basically brought the cake out with the sparklers burnt out as we sung Happy Birthday and danced, once again just trying to make good of a subpar experience, the Birthday Girl did request new sparklers which they obliged so we did get to see the cake sparkle and take new pics which was nice. Overall the Bartender super Unprofessional (texting on her phone etc.) Looks like they are taught to make the 6-8 specialty drinks on the menu and that's it! Don't dare order anything that goes beyond a Rum and Coke. The Server Orlando was nice he tried to come up with reason for the service issues but I do understand you can only do but so much with the team you have, in this case Sugar'd ....Smh do better. There was another guy that accommodated us towards the end of the night since Orlando was harder to reach, I didn't get his name but his style outshined the rest of the wait staff, he was cool too. I definitely appreciate his and Orlando's efforts. I could write a little more but for the sake of time, I'll just say it was an experience and I see no need to revisit this...

Read moreMy friends took me to Sugarâd for a birthday brunch this past weekend! The indoors is very nicely decorated with lots of light bright colors and gold accents.
We checked in for our reservation and went to the back. FYI, there is a front room and a back room.
The brunch menu is pretty simple, however, keep in mind they donât have a bottomless option. So we opted to do a rum punch pitcher and the jerk wings to start. There was a delayed timeframe in which we got water and the rum punch. We received the wings first before the water and our rum punch. The rum punch was good, there couldâve been a bit more punch in it.
When it came to the timing of the food it was pretty on point. The wings were extremely delicious. The meat fell off the bone and they were seasoned well. As a lover of spicy food, the spice is there, so if you arenât someone who canât tolerate spicy food, maybe have them tone it down for you (if possible). For my entree, I had the calypso fried chicken and waffles with a side of macaroni pie. So, I will say the sauce on the chicken is soooo good! I requested dark meat, and my friend ordered the same thing (without a request), and his chicken portion was a bit more than mine. In addition to this, my waffle was a bit soft. The macaroni pie I was a bit disappointed in, it did taste good when dipped with the calypso sauce. The chicken carried the meal. I tried a bite of the mango shrimp which was very good as well.
We ended up getting these complimentary shots that were a combination of sweet, spicy, and a bit strong. There were a bunch of emotions behind the shot, but I enjoyed it.
Then came the birthday cake! The presentation was cute! It was a chocolate lava cake and it was pretty good! I just felt like the cake was falling apart a bit too easily.
I saw there were comments about no large parties for brunch, I can confirm that I did see one this past weekend, I hope that clears up some of the misunderstandings. Vibe/environment wise. I was informed that it does get turnt, and I went in expecting a party brunch. The music was a bit low and the crowd was mainly sitting around having conversations. Iâm not too sure if it was the day, but the setting was more date-like. Everyone was polite and smiling and our waiter was great at checking in.
If I would return? Only to try the dinner menu.
