Tara sushi is HANDS DOWN the best Japanese restaurant in the Bayside Littleneck area. Quite possibly even the BEST in QUEENS. Every time I visit this restaurant, it amazes me more and more. Jimmy, and Ben truly know how to take care of their clients. And they make sure to go above and beyond the call of service to make each patrons meal a special experience. My meal started off with the tako wasa, a delicious Wasabi infused raw octopus served in a seaweed wrap. A great palate cleanser and a great way to start off your meal. Next to touch my tastebuds was their chowanmushi, seved in an egg shell and stuffed with the steamed egg, ikura and uni.... I could have eaten a dozen. The egg was silkynand light and the seafood saltiness from the caviar and uni tantalize my tastebuds as they were left craving for more. Next, out table shared the tuna tataki. Seared to perfection this small bite didn't disappoint. I loved the shrimp chips and the garnishes that made this dish complete. Our next dishes to come, came from the kitchen.... gyozas and some fried tofu. While the gyozas were delicious.... the Tofu was phenomenal! Light and crispy on the outside.... Hot and silky on the inside. The perfect little bite that our table didn't want to end. Finally, I finished off my meal with a sushi platter for 1, and a few specialty rolls for the table to share. And you can tell just from the pictures how incredible everything is. It tastes even better than it looks. Not pictured was their signature yuzu ikura sushi.... only because I ate it too quickly to photograph it. Lol. Which is proof enough to how incredible this restaurant is.
Thank you again Jimmy and Ben for an amazing evening out. Can't wait...

My name is Andrew and welcome to my first ever negative review. It's not directly about the food it's actually about the service. So if you hate those reviews skip this one. At this point it's just to vent my frustrations before I go back to the car and face my friends.
I came because it was highly recommended by friends and it has pretty serious reviews here on Google and on Yelp. I ordered the Tara Sushi & Sashimi for Two, the Hokkaido bafun uni, and the Uni & Ikura Don.
I put an online order on new years eve at 6:28. Came to get it at 7:20. I was told to come back in 30 minutes for it. Then I came back and waited, then they asked for my name again and asked for me to come back in another 30 minutes. I asked why it was taking this long and they apologized since it's a busy night. I came back as requested and the food wasn't ready. I was told there's one more item from my three item order that's being prepared. It's 8:38 and my food just got into my hands.
I get that your restaurant get busy, but what kind of organization do you have that you let this happen?
I haven't had the food and with the bitter salty taste I have in my mouth right now it would be hard to convince me to increase the star rating on this.
Don't think I'll be back here. I wish them nothing but the...
Read moreExtremely underwhelming and overpriced. Made my rolls with brown rice without asking if that was okay?! Who does that? The server was very attentive in suggesting what to order; I now realize it was an attempt to circumvent the fact that everything I wanted to order off of their VERY limited menu was unavailable. Not even avocado. The "spicy" classic roll trio were bland and scant, effortlessly overpowered by the very high-quality wasabi and ginger compliment. The specialty Spider roll amounted to much more of the same; featuring a meager 5 larger pieces of brown rice encased over-breaded fried bits of soft shell that left all to the imagination and much to be desired for $17.50. The Dynamite appetizer arrived after the main and amounted to not much more than warm seafood salad served on a Scallop shell. And the Miso Cod small bite was just that; indulgently spare yet barren of the flavor and complexity that would warrant the miniscule presentation and the pompous price tag. Oh, and the website says it has a full bar but upon inquiry, just some Saki and one tap beer option. I'm not sure why the discrepancy, but no libation to drown your Epicurean sorrows in while regretting your dining choice at this stylishly minimally decorated...
