There Should Always Be Cake — Restaurant in New York

It’s sad that I have to write a poor review, however I know that reviews can help other people decide to try out a new place. I would hate for anyone to have their wedding ruined because of this place. The young lady in front is super sweet and she is brand new so this is not her fault she’s learning. I blame my experience entirely on the way this business is run and how they did not train their front girl that basically takes orders and does everything. I’m also going to blame my experience on the fact that though they decorate beautiful cakes their buttercream and cake itself is not up to wedding standards.

OK so here’s my experience, I ordered an 8 inch pistachio cake with raspberry jam and pistachio curd. However, I got raspberry buttercream filling and no pistachio curd. The front girl tried her best however she was taking orders and taking phone calls and attending customers at the same time. You can tell she was not properly trained and she was trying the best that she could. The cake was gorgeous I attached a picture below. However when I cut into it it was like a brick. I left it out to thaw because the butter cream was so buttery, and you could tell that it was cracking already on the side. This place needs to use a different cream for their cakes and I blame this entirely on myself because when you go into the bakery you can pick out cupcakes yourself and try them to see how the cake will be. I didn’t do that before I purchased the cake I got the cupcakes afterwards, cupcakes were OK I figured a fresh bake cake would be so much better. And I’ll be honest the cake was not horrible it had a nice flavor to it pistachio cake is delicious but I have tasted some amazing pistachio cakes that have syrup and are moist and I’ve tasted buttercream that’s creamy and fluffy. I was trying to re-create my wedding experience for my husband and I however I cannot get a good pistachio cake in New York anywhere. The pistachio cake that I ate that was the best was in Puerto Rico. If you’re planning your wedding and you’re looking for a place to get a cake please do not get it here. The anxiety you will get will be crippling because you just don’t know if they got your order right, they don’t confirm anything, they don’t give you a receipt (Mind you I went in a second time to make sure everything was OK with the order because I couldn’t get anyone on the phone it kept on ringing and ringing and ringing. To anyone considering this cake shop: I had a horrible experience with this place. I placed an order for a custom cake and paid entire balance a month before the event. Receptionist says everything is all set just come in after 1pm to pick up the cake.The day of, I call to let them know I'm on my way. They say they don't have a cake order under my name and the call mysteriously gets disconnected. I call back, the owner asks me to describe the cake. She then says I apologize but we don't have your cake, a receptionist they hired messed up all these orders and they fired her.( if you had a receptionist that messed up orders shouldn't you double check all your orders to make sure you fixed what she messed up?) Anyhow, my order was amongst those, she said we can make a cake for you but it won't be the flavors you ordered. I requested a full refund she said absolutely! and said she can make a vanilla cake instead and that it'll be ready in 25 minutes. 2 hours later she has the cake ready and says she will not give me a refund because she finished the cake regardless of the mistakes they made and if I want a full refund and I quote "I will cancel your order and you can go elsewhere for a cake." After having agreed to give me the refund having me wait 2 hours instead of 25 minutes on top of the cake mishap the attitude this "business owner" had was absolutely unacceptable. After I questioned her about the original offer she said okay I can give you a credit of $50 to come back another time. That was another slap in the face to think I would ever come back. After i said I will never order there again she said fine I will give you back the $50 for the flavor change as if it was that simple they completely lost my order threw it together that day and called it a flavor change. Five minutes later I get a call from the receptionist that the owner said she fired calling to apologize for the mistake. And lastly, when we're driving back we realize they did not secure the buttercream cake in the box so when we get home one side is completely ruined. As a professional cake shop shouldn't you know how to secure a cake so it doesn't slip...

Very disappointed with the cake and the service received. I had my wedding this past weekend and they ruined my cake experience. I filled out the sheet online to request a quote for wedding cake options back in March. I had to send a follow up weeks later because I didn’t get a response. They finally got back to me and I sent some photos of the cakes I saw on their website that I would like to incorporate in my cake. I wanted to have a taste test for the cakes but they didn’t have the taste test option but I purchased 12 cupcakes to try different options in cake flavors. I came in a spoke with someone and showed the the cake I wanted and left a deposit in April and finalized the payment at the end of June. Come time for my wedding, I requested the cake to be delivered at 2:00 pm. My mom called at 3:00 since they never showed up and we were told they never got my order, but I had the receipt for my deposit and the finalized payment. They blamed it on having a “bad receptionist”. The cake they provided me was nasty and not fresh at all. It’s not worth it. I will NEVER go back to this place nor will I refer this to anyone. Very disappointed and was completely baffled that they gave me a attitude, for me being upset after spending almost $700 on a cake that wasn’t delivered.
