Owen F. Dolen Park — Attraction in New York

The work they do there with the children is awesome. I would recommend Owen Dolen Rec. Center to any parent that is looking for an after-school or summer camp foir their children.

They focus a lot of attention on teaching the children values period. But manly on their education, culture, community, family, ethics, the arts, history and carrying themself like young ladies & young men.

I've never seen a recreation center or after-school program like this in all my years.

My family moved to Harlem for two years & when we came back to the Bronx my daughter returned to Owen Dolen & it was like she never left.

Their values in teaching our youth the right way to go is like no other. All the children are treated the same. With dignity and respect.

If one of them is not doing right they would pull them to the side or take them in the office & talk to them.

One thing I've noticed over the years is that they have never embarrassed a child. They try to reach out to them. If that doesn't work they would call they're parents in. They work together with the families to get the children on the right track.

Our communities need more workers like the ones at Owen Dolen Rec. center. They don't just care about coming to work and getting a paycheck. They really care about the children their. They treat them like they are their own.

If a child doesn't show up. A faculty member would actually go to the child's home & knock on the door. Just to make sure the child is okay.

I personally know this because it has happened to me. If the child is just laying around looking at TV and doing nothing; they would take them right to the Rec center. Now that is going way beyond the Call of Duty. This is why I said they care about these children & treat them as their own.

I feel privileged & blessed to have found Owen Dolen. That my children grew up in that environment.

My children have been there for 10 year now. My baby just graduated from middle school yesterday. In September she will be entering high school. She told me that she would continue to go the Rec. Center.

Very nice. Busy area. The park itself is a place to sit n relax,the park mainly is for sitting to relax, friendly and lots of benches with benches outside the park around it to sit and wait on many bus,s.. Also there are lots of rats at night time appx.8p.m and later.. But nice sitting and relaxing small park with many stores going up the tremont ave blocks..Come and enjoy the peacefull area wheather your sitting in the open park or on the outside benches. Thier are short iron gates and bushes also around the park. A great statue to see. Just sit and relax if your in the area. Safe area, alot of high school kids going up 2 the 5 train or catching a bus home...Again safe...

Even though the park has been and still under the process of updating the appearance , I don't like this Park area at all. There are lots of individuals who are suffering with mental illness and not receiving help and medication to approve their condition. I don't feel safe. The individuals will approach you asking for cigarettes or money. The news sometimes will tell a story of how a person is attacked or harmed ,by a troubled person for no reason. I try to avoid Westchester sq as much as possible, it has changed a lot, for...
