Bailarina Bars, aka Dollar-Dance or Two-Dollar Dance Clubs
For $15 to $20, one of the women will sit with you and share a beer for a few minutes.
I'm making this post as someone experienced with these bars â Iâve been hanging out at them for years. Things have changed, and in many cases, have gotten out of hand. For you newcomers, I feel like I have to be my brotherâs keeper and help you avoid the scams.
All these bailarina bars should have a clear sign on the wall outlining the prices:
A dance per song is $1 to $2.
Buying a drink for a girl is $20 per drink. For example, 5 drinks would be $100.
For newcomers: When you first walk in and see lots of girls around you, you might think youâve hit the jackpot. But here comes the dark side â you open a tab with your debit or credit card and start drinking.
A girl walks up to you, and after a few words, she asks you to buy her a beer. You say âokayâ because you think she likes you. But neither she nor the bartender tells you it costs $20 until youâre ready to check out, and suddenly your bill is $300 to $400 or more.
Another scam: You might order a bucket of beer, and as she drinks, sheâll secretly pour the beer back into the bucket or switch to a light drink (like Baileys or vodka cranberry) which she can consume much faster.
If you get too drunk, pickpocketing becomes a real risk. And while your card tab is still open, itâs also a target for an extra 2 or 3 drinks added to your bill.
