I’m not sure what’s going on in Brooklyn these days but this was just unacceptable. We just returned from Europe/Türkiye & have been fortunate enough in life to try all different types of cuisine’s & restaurants all over the world including Chinese in many different countries (excluding China, (one day soon)) & comparing this to all of those Wei ranks at the very bottom. First off the Gen Tso’s chicken was good but they def use a lot of batter as filler & use the cheapest, chewiest low quality meat they can get away with. They’re very stingy on the broccoli, only giving one piece. I like the red colour of the sauce but lord know’s what bad ingredients they use in it that are completely banned in Europe & The UK. Next the fried rice is dripping in oil. Way too much oil. It was very unpleasant to eat. Last, the Hot & sour soup had so much oil in it & the color was the so dark, & for some reason there was oil in it. I didn’t realize you’re supposed to have oil in hot & sour soup. I’ll try some again soon after overnight and I hope it’s not the worst case scenario where it’s gelatinous. Places that make hot & sour soup this way are disgusting. With all that said the prices don’t make it much better. It was about $17 for the chicken, $8 for the way over oily fried rice with nothing else in it other than a cheap American egg & about $13 each for the large Hot & sour soups. Totaling about $50! I’ve paid less in Paris for higher quality. London is also expensive but the quality is higher minus the sweet & sour pork at this once place in Chinatown London which was delicious but 99% batter on the pork pieces but the taste was good with plenty of bell peppers. The price of Wei is an insult to how low quality, poorly prepared & cooked...

Read moreWe love Wei’s! Found ourselves drawn in from a Friday evening stroll by the relaxed atmosphere, thoughtful interior touches, and what I’d describe as an authentic Chinese-American menu.
We ordered the spicy peanut wontons, pea shoots with garlic, hand-pulled lo mein, and salt and pepper shrimp, and everything was simply perfect. We had to ask our server not to take away the empty wonton plate because we couldn’t stand to part with that expertly-balanced chili peanut sauce. Can’t wait to come back and try the egg drop soup and sesame chicken.
The service was wonderful, the vibes were great, the BYOB was fun (while it lasts - I imagine there’s a liquor license on the way) and I’m just delighted to have a wholly unpretentious, high-quality, great-atmosphere Chinese restaurant in the...
