We ordered a causa acevichada for my partner and a lomo saltado a lo pobre for me, first la causa they didn't ask us what we wanted and we thought it would be the regular one that is chicken, but they gave us tuna, we already said that there’s no problem we could eat it but he told me that it was taste weird and I tried it and it was too salty, we tried separately and we thought it was the tuna, we called the lady who attended us but she was busy so we told the other and took it to the kitchen and she told us that they had said that they had already been half eaten and that they could not do anything , and if we wanted we should order something else, but we had already taken a long time and we could not wait any longer, then my lomo saltado arrived and we just tried it because the rice was dry and hard, the lady who attended us approached us and we communicated about la causa And she asked us how the lomo saltado was and we told her what we had tried and that we already wanted it to go, she told us that she would change the rice and when she came to give us the receipt, we see that the prices were higher than on the menu, more on the lomo saltado, which was 19 and charged us 23, she told us that the taxes were added there but below she also added taxes and she told us that those down were from the drinks, she also included the tip knowing that we were not satisfied, and what she told us was that she could not do anything because there was no manager in the store, also arriving home I checked the rice and it...
Read moreThis restaurant (bodega) deserves ZERO stars! Got there at 8pm; me and my two friends (total of 4 people) waited over 20 minutes to get a waiter to take our order … then waited another 1 hour to get our orders that by the way they forgot to make because everyone we asked for the rest of the order the waiter kept saying “well what else did you order” so what I did was I didn’t even say my order anymore of course they never brought even though she took the order. Awful customer service. People were complaining about the wait and the take out people were also complaining about the wait (which I’m sure they called a half hour ago and their food wasn’t even done). Their excuse for the long wait was “everything here is made from scratch” THAT’S GREAT BUT I NEVER EVEN GOT MY FOOD LOL. Anyways, they also charged tip for the two hours we were there for even though it said parties of 6 will be automatically have a 15% gratuity… we were a party if 3 since my friend left at 9pm having been there for over an hour. DO NOT COME HERE UNLESS YOURE WILLING TO WAIT OVER 4 HOURS FOR YOUR FOOD. The one star was not optional, but yall need to know what you’ll be getting...
Read moreI saw a lot of people inside so I took it as a good sign. I was told they only accepted cash or Apple Pay, a little inconvenient, but w/e. I ordered pollo saltado, noodles & shrimp, shrimp rolls and 1 pork Bao. Total $57-60. I waited 50 mins for take out, but figured the food would be worth it.
(4/10)Saltado is my go to Peruvian dish. This was bland no flavor.
(4/10)Noodles and shrimp were ok in flavor
(5/10)Rolls were ok (shrimp tempura)
(3/10)Bao buns had a small amount of meat, not very flavorful.
Pros: lot of variety on menu, decent portions Cons: quality, price point, experience.
Of course this is downtown Newark, I’m born and raised(Brick City baby), so I’m not considering the area, homeless coming in to beg while ppl eat etc. Just the food, price and experience
Open to give it another shot, maybe wrong day and items ordered.
Also there’s a broken floor tile directly where you stand in front of the cashier…I don’t care but...
