A friend and I decided to give it a try tonight. It was packed so we figured it would be good. Wait time to be seated wasn’t too bad considering how busy they were. Once we were seated, it took a while for our waitress to come take our drink order. Because it took so long we had already decided what to eat. We tried to place our food order with our drink order and the waitress made us wait and only wanted to take the drink order. It was weird but we figured she was trying not to overload the kitchen. She walked past our table several times before taking our food order. I ordered the dinner chile relleno which comes with 2 and is $16.99. When the food was brought out, I only had 1 chile relleno. I asked the waitress about it and she said she submitted it as a lunch order instead of a dinner. She asked if this was ok and I said yes so long as I was charged the lunch price since that is not what I ordered and she submitted the order wrong. The lunch is $12.99 but there is a $3 charge for ordering off the lunch menu after 5:00pm. When I got the ticket, I was charged the extra $3 since the lunch was ordered after hours. I asked to speak to the manager and explained to him that I had ordered the dinner and the waitress chose to submit it as a lunch without asking me. I told him I had specifically ordered the dinner because it didn’t make sense to pay $15.99 when I could just pay an extra dollar and get a bigger portion. He ended up changing the price to $12.99 but it has really put me off from wanting to go back. I get it is only $3 but it seems the wait staff is more concerned with overcharging customers than giving them what they actually ordered. The food wasn’t bad but it is a little over priced. You can get great Mexican food from the food truck down the road for a...
Read moreThis San Marcos location opened while I was deployed overseas.. While home on leave, my wife and I decided to give them a try, and we are glad we did..
The gasoline alley decor is executed perfectly, and the main dining room and bar area is very inviting..
Chips, salsa, and queso arrived at our table promptly, and our server greeted us shortly thereafter.. We ordered a pair of premium margaritas for starters.. One crafted with Patron Silver and the other with Casamigos Reposado.. Both were delightful..
For our main courses, my wife sampled the chicken fajitas, and I had a quartet of tacos; two pork and two Carne Asada..
My wife's fajitas were delivered to the table still sizzling, the grilled chicken was seasoned perfectly, and the onions and green peppers were slightly charred.. In my wife's own words, the dish was perfectly executed..
I thoroughly enjoyed both street taco options I chose.. The pork tacos were packed full of flavor, and the onions and cilantro were fresh.. The corn tortillas were hot and held the taco ingredients quite well.. I found the pair of Carne Asada tacos to be just as delightful.. I found the portion sized to be a little more robust than expected, too, so that was a plus..
The rice, refried beans, pico, and guacamole were all wonderfully fresh, too, so that just added to our overall satisfaction..
I'm only home for a couple of weeks before I head back over to the Tatooine-like deserts of western Iraq 🇮🇶, but I'm thinking we'll hit San Marcos #5 up once more before I depart..
Thanks for a great...
Read moreOwner is rude, he owns many rental properties in Newcastle and I’ve heard he’s horrible to his tenants. When we heard he was building a restaurant here, we were excited as we’re a big fan of the one on Merdian. We put what rumors we had heard out here aside, and decided to give him our business as we’re a big fan of the restaurant. They also charge if you use card here instead of cash, they won’t tell you about the charge either. Which is highly improper for a restaurant ontop of wanting a tip. Went to eat here after excited for it to be opened, our queso was cold and had no flavor, the chips were a bit stale. Brought this up to the waitress and she seemed to not care. She seems to not like working there at all. Water had something in it, don’t know what it was. I refused to drink it. Ordered some enchalliadas, the sauce had no flavor, and the beans here are almost watery enough to be soup, meat had little to no flavor. We paid for a meal and left. Won’t be going back. Usually we go to the one in OKC. If you’re honestly looking for good Mexican food in Newcastle, this would not be it. I’d drive over to the other Mexican place by Walmart or go into town. I’ve never seen a new restaurant be so sloppy with their food, service, or hidden fees but when you’re dealing with someone rumored to be horrible to their tenants, I’m not surprised they’re horrible with their costumers either.
A lot of restaurants don’t survive in Newcastle, I have seen a lot come and go. I hope they listen to their customers and improve their food...
