Walked in 1st visit. Small frontage order area, register to the right small bit of counter seating to the left. Kind of like a Creamisry with fresher ingredients. The concept is to use top notch ingredients and create ice cream using the nitrogen process. It's an old chemistry class trick that when done right using their custom machines, makes very smooth ice cream. Ok, regarding the smoothness, straight up I'd be back in a heartbeat for the product. As for price the website looks like no update since March 2018 (?) We were able to order the Lil Bites (?) maybe used to be Lil Scientists. This is a limited menu of smaller sized, but less expensive choices @ 4.50$/ea. This choice was a value and as a dinner dessert plenty for portion size. A few downsides... We ordered thinking we were first to be served. With only two ice cream machines in use, there were actually two orders ahead of us. We didn't want to seem impatient, but our order was ready 20+ minutes after ring up. Be cautious if you are going to a movie, etc. There was what looked like three young staff and one Supervisor/Mgr on shift to make orders. With orders coming in I did not see the machine bowls filled, churning out ice cream. I have no clue what wait time is when they have a rush but I'm sure it's more than 20+ minutes. There was the usual pop music medium volume in the store. Hip n cool, yes, but bummer the staff was shouting over the combo of music and the air blasts the nitrogen made as it hit the mixing bowl. I didn't care to much for one employee discussing work hours and employee habits while making the ice cream. As first time customers, I thought the register/counter person could have been more helpful or friendly to us. The girl at the "finishing" station was moving a bit slow compared to back service restuarant people I've worked with. Again as commented only one machine of two was used on average, sometimes two. Magically, they did get orders out in a roughly smooth operation. There was a looseness to the group for example a woman came in and just waited at the register for service for quite some time before being noticed. The place was very clean as expected. A little bit of old ice cream and toppings floating in the dipper wells. I did notice an employee rinsing blades in the dipper wells instead of being sanitized in the sink. Overall an average experience with very good ice cream. I can see this is a good product by people with good intentions. FYI, I've managed and sold ice cream, not easy. My intent here is not to anonymously rip on a store. I hope they resolve the output issue to make more product faster but still keep quality. Also, I know it's a challenge to manage kids getting minimum wage, but they owe the company to represent the product and encourage people to come back. Leasing at Fashion Island is not cheap. Oh and its AUG 2018, keeping websites current is extra work on top of 14 hour days, I know I've worked them. But current info sells the awesome fresh ingredient model to a wider group of people for you... Thank you kindly for the great ice...
Read moreI recently visited Atomic Ice Cream this past Saturday, and unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. I must say, however, that the ice cream itself was delicious, which is why I am giving them two stars.
Firstly, I was taken aback by the lengthy wait time of approximately 30 minutes. It turned out that they had forgotten my order, which was quite frustrating. While I understand that mistakes happen, the lack of attention to detail was disappointing.
During my wait, there was a noticeable sense of frantic energy between the other customers and the employees. Witnessing this unease and tension created an uncomfortable atmosphere that did not align with the joyful anticipation of enjoying ice cream.
Another aspect that added to my disappointment was the contradictory signage. I noticed signs stating that the seating area was for "dine-in only," which was precisely my intention. However, when my ice cream was finally ready, one of the owners handed it to me and instructed me to eat it outside. Regrettably, the ice cream quickly melted into a soupy mess due to the warm weather. I had patiently waited indoors, expecting to enjoy my treat in a suitable environment, and this sudden change of plans was not appreciated.
As a customer, I prefer not to witness such frantic energy when all I wanted was to be uplifted by a delightful ice cream experience. Additionally, being told to eat my ice cream outside after waiting patiently indoors politely felt both dismissive and discourteous.
Overall, this was an odd and unsatisfying experience, one that prevented me from fully enjoying the quality of the ice cream. I believe Atomic Ice Cream has the potential to be something truly special, but improvements are needed in terms of customer service and the owners' demeanor. If they can cultivate a friendlier and more customer-focused environment, it would greatly enhance the overall experience for...
Read moreWe Have Been Coming Here For Years When Atomic Creamery Was A Tiny Shop By Macy's. Today, We Were Blown Away By The Curt Unprofessionalism. Given, My Spouse & I Both Have Allergies To Gluten and Dairy, We Asked A Few Clarifying Questions To The Teenage Boy Running The Counter Who "Wasn't Sure." We Then Asked The Older Lady Making The Ice Cream Who Was Quite Abrupt & Treated Us Like An Imposition. Her Responses Were Short Leaving Us Feeling Unsafe We Would Have Our Orders Made Correctly. She Did Add They Are Mindful Relative To Allergies To Alert The Boy Up Front. When We Ordered The Boy Was Uninformed & Appeared Visibly Irritated By Our Need For Clarification.
