This restaurant is a hidden gem on the out-skirts of Newport Beach near the border of Irvine. It's inexpensive and a heck of a value. I mean truly they do go the extra miles with their cooking from scratch using the finest ingredients. They cook with their heart here, they cook with love. They have pride and you can see, feel and taste that. I heard it's family owned for over 30 years. My Dad was the restaurant critic for KABC and channel 7 for eleven years and I went to culinary school and cooked in fine dining restaurants for years. This is our new favorite neighborhood, local, mellow spot. Excellent cooked from scratch food with a great menu and excellent service. It's a mellow local neighborhood spot . Almost like a diner or old school coffee shop but with higher end food. Here is a note to the people looking at their menu on line and maybe to the owner of the restaurant. If you look up their menu on line you might think there aren't too many choices like I did, but when you go into the restaurant they hand you two menus. The regular one they have on line and the Chef's Special one which has about 6-8 really nice other classics. Maybe they should post the Chef's Special menu on their website too so potential customers can see all the other good choices they make.
P.S. They allow you to bring your own wine in and don't even charge a corkage fee!!! They do serve their own beer and wine as...
Read moreWe called ahead and made a reservation for a larger group. When we arrived, they seated as, as promised, on the heated patio area. We had 3 less than we had planned on, but that was probably for the best! Throughout our entire experience, it felt as though we were being forgotten. They sold us a bottle of half price wine as part of their specials, but it took ages for our drinks to arrive, our orders to be taken, our apps, and then our food to arrive to the table. The servers were kind, but we could tell they were understaffed and struggling to keep up. A server did bring each of us a free bakery cookie for our trouble. We waited quite a bit for our check, but since no one came, I went to the register at the entrance to pay. I paid and we left. Later that night, I got a call that they had forgotten to charge us for the wine. I grabbed my receipt to confirm and noticed that we had not paid for the wine, but had paid both gratuity for a large party and also tipped. They were very kind to add the bottle of wine, remove the tip, and email me a new receipt. I do not believe that this was any fault of the servers on duty- as much as understaffing. Potentially serving and in the kitchen. As a group that travels often for work, we were able to make the most of it, but it definitely made for a longer evening out than planned for. We probably won't return if we're in...
