I recently dined at Rothschild’s Restaurant with my family. While the food was good and we enjoyed exploring the wine cellar, we encountered a disturbing issue. After my boys used the bathroom, I discovered that the wallpaper was covered in explicit sexual images, including topless women and scenes of men and women engaged in sexual acts.
I was extremely upset to find out that my children were subjected to these adult images without any prior warning from the servers or staff. Exposing children to such content without parental consent is entirely inappropriate and unacceptable. Families considering dining here should be aware of this issue before making their decision. This experience significantly marred our visit, and I urge the restaurant to address this concern immediately.
Edit after owner response: Thank you for your response to my review. While I appreciate your explanation about the "Toile de Jouy" wallpaper and its historical context, I must emphasize that explicit sexual images, regardless of their artistic or historical value, are inappropriate for public spaces where patrons, including children, may be exposed to them without warning. Even though Rothschild's may not specifically market itself as a family-friendly restaurant, families do dine there, and patrons should not have to worry about unexpectedly encountering such content. It is essential for all establishments to consider the sensitivities of their diverse clientele and ensure an environment where everyone can feel comfortable.I strongly urge you to reconsider the placement of these images or at least provide adequate warnings to prevent any future incidents. Clear communication about such elements would help maintain a respectful atmosphere for all patrons. Thank you for your attention to...
Read moreMaureeen was our waitress. She was incredible. Would go back just to see her. When we walked in I was wearing shorts and a hoodie and the Staff looked at me like we didn't belong. I got the feeling like we would be judged unless I was in a jacket and dress pants. I ordered the filet. I asked it to be a minimum of medium. I specifically stated I was sharing this with my wife who is 7 months pregnant so medium was an absolute must. Filet was initially brought out rare at best then sent back. Then came out medium rare at best.
We asked to speak to the manager just to share our experience. When we communicated that we felt judged for the way we dressed the manager made an excuse that the hostess stand is nowhere near the door and the awkward reaction to us showing up was due to not expecting us early. She also said we should have sent the fillet back again (for a 2nd time). The second most expensive item on the menu apparently needed recooked twice even after we communicated my wife was pregnant. When we received the bill we were charged the full amount for our bill. I then indicated to the waitress that I was happy to pay the entire bill but thought it was odd that we were charged 38 for a filet I ate 2 bites of. We were initially offered a $20 coupon off of our "next visit". The manager knew we were in town from san diego. We never wanted a discount. The manager eventually took half the price off the fillet off the bill. We added that to the waitresses tip. The waitress Maureeen was incredible. The food was okay, the management was not acceptable for the expectations I had for this place as it was recommended to us...
Read moreRothchild in Corona Del Mar has officially earned its place as one of our family staples. The cozy, welcoming vibe makes it an easy weeknight pick—but it’s the food (and desserts!) that keep us coming back.
The kids are completely hooked on the Cacio e Pepe—perfectly creamy, peppery, and always made even better with a side of grilled chicken. I usually go for their Caesar salad—you can’t go wrong with either grilled chicken or salmon on top; both are fresh, flavorful, and just the right portion.
This time, we started with the truffle fries and garlic bread—and wow. The fries were crisp and golden with just the right hit of truffle and shaved Parm, while the garlic bread was pillowy, buttery, and loaded with flavor. Total table-pleasers.
And then… the Oreo pie. Honestly? It’s the real reason we keep coming back. Cold, creamy, chocolatey, and ridiculously good. One slice is never enough.
Shoutout to Debi, who always makes the experience next-level by custom ordering everything just how the kids (and I) like it. She’s kind, patient, and truly makes you feel at home.
Oh—and I tried a Last Word cocktail this time. Bright, herbal, and beautifully balanced. Clearly, their bar program knows what it’s doing.
Rothchild delivers every time—with flavor, warmth, and that neighborhood charm...
